Anyone else paying for a summer holiday in installments?

And if so are you continuing to pay?

I booked on a website and it's a package to Greece. The website says to only contact if you're going in the next 7 days, but my next installment is due in a couple of weeks so I need to make a decision.

Holiday is late July and obviously won't be happening (I think). I know insurance or ABTA won't pay out in these circumstances. I paid on a credit card but I don't think that'll pay either as it says they pay if company doesn't provide goods, but by stopping paying I'm not giving them the chance I think?

What I'm asking is, do I stand more chance of getting money back if I continue paying or should I just cut my losses? And I'm trying to contact the companies themselves but there's no hope of getting through atm.

What are others doing in this situation?

Not as urgent as your situation, but we had a (rather flipping expensive) week in the Lakes booked for week commencing 11 July. We’ve paid a deposit and the balance is due in the first half of May. I’m hoping that the situation is clearer by then, but do not think we’ll be in a position to have certainty that it would go ahead by then.

I’ve reconciled myself to losing the deposit and not going.

We’ve already lost our main (Easter) holiday that we were meant to be flying off on this Saturday. We hope to get some money back but no guarantees or answers as yet, and that’s been a truly horrible amount of money to wave goodbye to.

If you’re not in too deep in terms of what you’ve already paid, I’d not pay any more instalments.

We have an expensive holiday booked for end of August. The company has been great so far as in information for our rights (at the moment we can cancel and only pay for 1 internal flight and some tickets as they have already been finalised/ purchased)
As it stands, you are still under contract and subject to "normal" booking conditions. It is only when the foreign office advice is against non essential travel for time / country that Insurance ect. will kick in.
I hope that helps... I have just called a trip to Europe, dealing directly with hotels and they didn't charge me anything unlike their British counterparts!

We have a riding holiday in Iceland booked for mid July and balance due mid May . Will lose deposit obviously if cancel now . Am waiting to see how April pans out but in all honesty can’t see it happening .

Yes, we are going to Greece at the end of Aug. Due to pay our next installment in April, we will pay as we don't want to lose out on the holiday and hope things will be ok by then, if not, its on our credit card and covered by ATOL...🤞🏻

I have a week in Naples booked for October have already paid 2/3 of the cost in instalments last 1/3 due September hopefully by then I will be able to go or defer the holiday till next year

TreacherousPissFlap · 25/03/2020 19:29

Why won't you get a refund?

We are supposed to be flying out at the end of June to Italy A massive balance is due in a couple of weeks but I've been told not to contact the travel company until the beginning of April.

The thing is I won't get a refund unless I pay the full balance, but the rules are apparently changing and I may end up with a voucher instead of the money back. If I cancel we will lose £800 deposit Shock

We have a holiday cottage in late May booked. No idea if restrictions will be lifted. Only paid the deposit so far and know the owners of the site it's on quite well, so I will be able to talk to them about the situation before paying the rest closer if it looks like things will be looser.

Martin Lewis said to keep paying. If you stop, you won't be entitled to any kind of refund/rebooking at all.
