Ball pit just arrived. Do I need to sterilise each ball before baby uses?

Arrived from Holland this morning, delivery took 4 days. Ball pit and 300 balls. Do I need to wash, dettol and dry them all? Or can baby just use it straight away?

I'd use a disinfectant spray, dettol etc and a hot cloth then just go over with hot water after. Will probably take about half an hour!

Play with my child? Wow thanks @DiNATwist clearly I hadn't thought of that. I'm at home 24/7 on my own with a baby who is constantly go go go, can't crawl yet and is desperate to, is constantly whinging or screaming as he can't reach what he wants to reach, or go where he wants to go without my assistance. Sue me for wanting something to distract him for 20 minutes.

Like PP have said, it would have been manufactured and packed up months ago. I really wouldn’t worry. I hope you get some peace while the baby plays! Smile

Just leave it untouched for 3 days. You will never be able to thoroughly disinfect every single ball.

I put ball pit balls in dishwasher! X

OldUnit · 25/03/2020 10:33

Isn't this a bit 'overkill'?

goolish · 25/03/2020 11:08

I don't know if it's overkill or not I'm torn!

Gosh I wouldn’t bother

WestWasnt · 25/03/2020 11:16

I agree that it won’t have been touched for ages. It will have been packed waiting to be dispatched I. A warehouse somewhere, probably for weeks or months. So I’d just let him play with it, and I’m disinfecting the house daily, so not one who thinks “it’s just flu”.

If you want to wash it then soap (washing up liquid or washing powder) will work best in the same way as washing your hands works

PurpleCrazyHorse · 25/03/2020 11:22

If it's arrived sealed in plastic packaging then I wouldn't bother. I would take the approach that it has been packaged ages ago. Are you wiping down all your food items before using them? However, if you're going to worry, then wipe them down with some hot soapy water. Nothing worse than worrying over it. If your baby naps, then sort it then ready for later.
