Is anyone up? I have a headache and I just need someone to talk to and to calm down.

Just not really… I just made one of my Vietnamese coffee’s. I can’t sleep and I’m getting a headache… I’ve had migraines for the past couple of days. Just everything is getting to me.

Does anyone know, if you were in the UK, is it OK to walk to a supermarket that’s further away but where I know they will help me with in the supermarket. And it’s a supermarket or I know the layout very well.

I am completely sure that would be fine if you were asked to explain. Helpful staff and a known layout are really important for your capacity to be self sufficient.

Are you still in the centre of a big city? I remember you from a while back.

Hellokittymania · 25/03/2020 05:01

I have lots of plastic bags, so my mom suggested using that instead of a glove if I need to feel things in the supermarket… Not sure how much tactile feedback that’s going to give though… I can certainly try it… i’m having to think about things now that I never thought of before… Not sure if many of you are aware, but do you know under the boxes when you cross the road… There is a little cone under the box that spins when the light turns green… It’s for blind people to tell them that the light screen… Anyway, I touch all of those… My new, since nobody knows about them, I doubt anyone else would’ve touched them… But you never know…

Jones, yes I am.
Totally, thank you, I’m going to see if I can find the food boxes. That sounds like a good idea. Hopefully there will still be slots though…
Another question, if you’re in central London, what places are doing take away? If you go on just eat, will it show what places are open still? I haven’t used it in a few months, I think they did something to their website so it’s become less user-friendly, but I can always keep my mom busy in Florida ha ha Ha. She helps when she can.

I didn't know about the little boxes, no! I'll look next time (though I won't touch!) Good luck with that idea of plastic bags. I suppose if they are thin enough it might work - those bags they use on fruit and veg might work okay. What I try and think is that touching things doesn't matter as long as I can wash my hands soon and don't touch my face. I don't have any hand gel and it annoys me that people are taking more than they need when it comes into shops.

totallydevoidofideas · 25/03/2020 05:15

I've just had a look on Just Eat and it's showing places still delivering on the app. Depends what you want, as I'm not in London, but round here not too much of a problem by the look of it.

totallydevoidofideas · 25/03/2020 05:15

What is Vietnamese coffee, by the way?

Hellokittymania · 25/03/2020 05:22

Totally, could you please help me here with something? I'm trying to buy the box and it won't let me add it to the basket. I clicked on plus, I clicked on the one, tapped on it rather… How do I get it to add to my basket and purchase…

Are you registered with Morrisons already? I think you need to set up as a customer with them first.

totallydevoidofideas · 25/03/2020 05:26

Or it could be they have run out - they will only take bookings a couple of days ahead, you can't book slots very far ahead so I think they all go as they are using a different system to their usual.

Hellokittymania · 25/03/2020 05:26

And Vietnamese coffee is really really good! It's very strong, and usually it's with condensed milk, I just have a tiny bit because otherwise it's very sweet. In Vietnam, I always have the ice one. Even if it's freezing cold outside… I went to the lunar new year party back in January, and they had Vietnamese food, but no coffee… So somebody kindly went and bought me a box of Vietnamese coffee sauces. They're coming in very useful right now. I just wish I could order this box from Morrison's…

Hellokittymania · 25/03/2020 05:27

Oh no… Yes, I register… Please don't tell me this has run out to… 😩😩

totallydevoidofideas · 25/03/2020 05:28

Also having a look at Morrisons for you.

totallydevoidofideas · 25/03/2020 05:31

It also says that from next Monday they will have phone ordering for the boxes, so that will help.

ArriettyJones · 25/03/2020 05:37

Have you tried to get yourself on the Sainsbury’s priority register for vulnerable, disabled and elderly customers?

It is hard work to get registered as such at the moment as their phone lines are clogged, but if you can manage it you then get priority access to delivery slots.

Register as a general customer online first, if you are not already, then keep trying their helpline number 0800 328 1700 to request prioritisation.

totallydevoidofideas · 25/03/2020 05:40

Arietty that sounds a good idea. I'm on the Morrisons website and am going round in circles! Maybe that wasn't one of my best ideas, but it did work fine a couple of days ago.

totallydevoidofideas · 25/03/2020 05:41

That Vietnamese coffee sounds really good!

ArriettyJones · 25/03/2020 05:46

Yes I ordered a Morrison’s box a few days ago @totallydevoidofideas but they seemed to sell out very quickly.

I think for those of us with medical and disability issues, it’s a case of try everything this week and see what works. Even harder for kitty when she is having to do everything online through special software.

totallydevoidofideas · 25/03/2020 05:49

Thanks Arietty - so difficult at the moment.

ArriettyJones · 25/03/2020 05:52

I’m just racking my brains on the glove issue.

And I suddenly have an overwhelming urge to go and inspect pedestrian crossing boxes for spinning cone bits. I don’t suppose that’s a valid reason to leave the house though Grin

alexdgr8 · 25/03/2020 05:52

some callers on the radio who were visually impaired said they had had problems in the street and shops, when a friend was helping them.
they were told off for not observing the 6 foot distance rule, but when you cannot see...
someone suggested contacting the RNIB for advice. they might be able to suggest ways of getting your shopping.
i would think you can walk to a further shop, but am only guessing. but the whole thing sounds so difficult for you.
do you have any friends or neighbours who could do it for you and deliver it to your door. are you in london. good luck.

Hellokittymania · 25/03/2020 05:53

I want to… I’m trying with Sainsbury’s… But no luck yet. I heard I think it was Iceland that is only doing online deliveries now for vulnerable… But ha ha Ha, their website isn’t very accessible…

OP posts:
ArriettyJones · 25/03/2020 05:57

Your other option is to ring a local food bank and ask for a delivered food parcel. I appreciate your problem is access rather than finance, but they exist to prevent people going hungry after all.

That at least might buy you a couple of days breathing space to get registered with a retailer as priority.

totallydevoidofideas · 25/03/2020 05:59

Best of luck with it all, Hellokitty and Arrietty! It's been good to chat to you two and it's got me through some middle of the night anxiety very well. It's light out now!

ArriettyJones · 25/03/2020 06:00

Sleep well @totallydevoidofideas

Hellokittymania · 25/03/2020 06:05

Sleep well! I am OK for I think two more days… But then I think I might have to try the food bank… I don’t have much of a freezer… Any idea how long a frozen pizza that was not in the freezer would last… It could last week couldn’t it?
