What's happening in your garden?

We have tadpoles, frog spawn, the first butterflies (bright green) and it's all looking very green. Hard to believe we snow on this day last year.

Quite a nice sunset. Bit worried I may have planted the first potatoes a bit early, so fingers crossed for no frost.

flossyflorenceflounces · 25/03/2020 19:39

Hopefully we'll have peacock butterflies soon but the buddleia isn't yet flowering so perhaps not.

Actually I'd like peacocks as well but they'd look bloody stupid perched on the buddleia. It'd be one up on Hyacinth Bucket next door who has an idea she's a better social class to us because they have a camper van.

Honesty is rampant in our garden. Seeded everwhere. I have some white seeds to sow too.

Something else had also seeded everywhere but I need to look back at what it is.

Think ill get the pot redcurrent into the ground.

Clematis Armandii going mad. Lots of wood anenomies.

I love wood anenomies, I must get some when this is all over. Ditto honesty. The only thing rampant in my garden is normally mint but it seems to have died over the winter Shock

ErrolTheDragon · 25/03/2020 19:53

I had a peacock butterfly in my garden today. I think the butterflies at this time of year have all overwintered, now they come out and breed - eggs, caterpillars, chrysalis - then there's a new generation by late summer when the buddleia is out which overwinter...

TwoZeroTwoZero · 25/03/2020 20:20

We've had a bumble bee buzzing about and I've seen a ladybird and what I think are a few lacewings. Least year we have hundreds and hundreds of greenfly so I'm wondering if there will be more ladybird and lacewings this year.

We have some nesting sparrows in the bushes at the front and a couple of blackbirds in the bushes at the back. There are other birds but I'm not sure if they're nesting or visiting.

We have tulips beginning to bud and some grape hyacinths as well as a lot of wild garlic growing but not yet flowering.

flossyflorenceflounces · 25/03/2020 20:32

I'll keep my fingers crossed for a peacock butterfly soon then Errol
We have blackbirds too and robins nested in the shed last year, we now keep the door open a couple of inches or so to help them return if they want to - the nest is still there.
We still have a pair in the garden so I hope so.

IceniSky · 25/03/2020 21:29

So I think achillia, cow parsley and happily fox glove have seeded. Cow parsley rather a lot.

Some love in a mist and potentially cosmos.

I wanted a modern garden. It seems to have turned into cottage, come woodland.

Raindancer411 · 25/03/2020 21:36

The bright green/yellow butterflies are brimstones :)

WisestIsShe · 25/03/2020 21:48

I saw a bat zooming around in the garden tonight. I was so excited you'd think he was Father Christmas Blush

Momniscient · 25/03/2020 21:50

Monarch butterfly today! Cat had a go at catching it but no luck (phew!)

Dzundza · 25/03/2020 22:15

We think we found a bumblebee nest in the garden! There is a hole in the ground that they keep coming out of. I love bumblebees so am very happy about this.

Bunnyflop · 26/03/2020 10:14

We have a pink scabious, French lavender and lilac anemone in flower and lots of pink buds on our blossom tree. I’ve got a new blue moon rose to plant and am waiting on a delivery of a new white David Austin rose and a sage green obelisk to grow sweet peas up. Also awaiting a new wall mounted bird feeder. We have magpies visiting intermittently and sitting on our lawn.

Bunnyflop · 26/03/2020 10:15

Ooh just remembered we are also awaiting our caterpillars from insect lore which we grow every year and release them in our garden as painted lady butterflies.

ErrolTheDragon · 26/03/2020 10:25

Some of those sound early, BunnyFlop - especially the lavender.

CoolcoolcoolcoolcoolNoDoubt · 26/03/2020 10:46

Ahhh I love the gardening threads on here at the minute. I had a peacock butterfly in my garden yesterday! And one of the neon yellowy/green ones.. I watched it for ages.

We managed to get some spring flowering plants in pre-lockdown, I'm so thankful we did and cant wait to see them come out. We managed to redo our patio and we are moving a border from the shady side of our garden to the sunny side and it's great to see everything perk up after being moved. So grateful for having the outside space to enjoy at the minute, plus the sunny weather.

We're going to attempt growing from seed for the first time this year too.. sunflowers, nasturtiums and sweet peas on the agenda!

Sarah Raven delivery today skips off to plant the babies

MiracletoCome · 26/03/2020 11:25

The hedgehogs are very active now, we have one living in the hedgehog house which comes out each night to feed and another visiting one, though there was a bit of fisticuffs last night between them in the foodhouse, one headbutted the other Shock

Daffodil1967 · 26/03/2020 13:37

Blossom on our little plum tree.
It usually produces about 30 plums all at once come September.

HasaDigaEebowai · 26/03/2020 13:41

I can hear a woodpecker out of the window. Its a lovely sound.

OneInEight · 26/03/2020 17:11

I have two camellias in full bloom. They are the only thing that does well other than weeds in our garden.

MaisyMary77 · 26/03/2020 17:27

I’ve got rats. Lots of little baby rats. There’s an large untended plot of land behind our garden-the owners just ignore it. We’ve had environmental health out to look and they served the owners with a notice to clear. They’ve not bothered though. So the rats are keeping my dogs and cats entertained-squashing any plant that get in their way.
I did have hyacinths, tulips, hellebores, lily of the valley, snowdrops...it’s usually really beautiful out there this time of year-the dogs know to stay off the flower beds but they just can’t resist the rats.

I’m still getting plenty of robins and other birds, quite a few butterflies-lovely to see!

Callybrid · 26/03/2020 17:43

So nice to hear about all the butterflies - only seen one up here so far but have seen loads of lovely fuzzy bumble bees.

I’m mostly excited about my indoors seedlings as outdoors is still quite quiet - lots of leaf buds but not many flowers. I have cucumber, tomato, cosmos, mange tout and sweet peas all popping up in seed trays and pots.

Manzana · 28/03/2020 11:24

lovely thread, I discovered we have a newt in our very small pond, no frogs Sad also my Tithonia seeds that I saved from last year are all germinating, made me happy
