How can I pay this cheque in?

Received a cheque in the post this morning. Struggling to get it paid into my account.

I bank with Natwest. The branch in my town was shut down a couple of years ago. They don’t offer online cheque deposit like some banks do.

Post office won’t accept cheque without personalised paying in slip. Don’t have any. Tried to order a paying in book online but Natwest said I can only do this by phone.

I tried to call but they are only taking calls for urgent overdraft extensions or mortgage holidays.

The nearest branches are a bus ride and obviously we are not allowed to do non essential journeys.

Any ideas on how to get this paid into my account? Every penny counts at the moment as my work hours have been cut in half due to the pandemic.

If you open a halifax account online they let you scan the cheque to pay it in using your mobile phone.

Bit annoying to have to open a whole new bank account to just pay a cheque in though!

I bank with Santander and we can use the post office to deposit cheques. I have put a piece of paper in an envelope with my cheques before when I have ran out of paying in slips. I put my name, address, telephone number and account details. Could you try that?

Post it with your account number on the back alone with your address and post code to a local branch.

Works for other banks did tow this week

HSBC app allows you to pay a cheque in up to the value of £500

The halifax one only took me 5 minutes to open online and now I always just use it for when I get cheques. Much easier than waiting in the post office and cheaper than posting the cheque to the bank.

CaramelBuff · 24/03/2020 11:10

Fab. I’ll post it to a branch. The post office said no without a personalised paying in slip.

Thanks for the help!

You can put a cheque into a natwest envelope at the post office. No paying in slip required

Dawlish · 24/03/2020 11:14

Do you have internet banking? Photograph the cheque on your phone and pay it in that way?

Dawlish · 24/03/2020 11:17

Ignore my post OP. NatWest don't have the facility. Shame.

lifeisgoodmostofthetime · 24/03/2020 11:19

Do you have a cheque book? There are usually pay in slips at the back so you can therefore pay in at the post office. I did it yesterday

CaramelBuff · 24/03/2020 11:52

No cheque book with the account as it’s quite a basic one. I’ve just popped it into the post to the nearest branch and hopefully that will be fine. Ironically it is a Natwest cheque from Royal Mail Smile

@bigyellowduck I thought that too but the post office didn’t have any Natwest envelopes and wouldn’t take it without the personalised printed paying in slip

On a Barclays Bank App ypu can pay a cheque in by photographing it, works a treat. Check you Nat West APP

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 24/03/2020 12:02

Have you got any stamps?

Post it to your bank with a letter telling them your account details and that given current circumstances you were unable to get to the bank in person ?

If you have online banking? Get the app for you bank some banks let you pay it in by simply uploading a photo to the app

CaramelBuff · 24/03/2020 13:25

It’s been posted now. Thanks everyone

I had the same problem and posted the cheque yesterday to my local branch with a covering letter explaining I couldn't get down in person and giving the account details.

HollowTalk · 24/03/2020 18:46

Is your local branch open, though?
