It’s my ds’s birthday in a couple of weeks no idea what I can buy him . Any ideas . I will do one Amazon order . He was going to an event for his main present - obviously cancelled, sleepover with mates obviously cancelled.

It will be a very odd day the 2 of us at home so would like to get him something even though I have said he can celebrate properly later in the year.

Arrange a zoom party with his mates.

Whitelisbon · 24/03/2020 08:03

I'm in the same situation, but my ds will be 14. He was promised a new bike, but hes extremely vulnerable, so is on total house arrest, so a bike would be rather cruel just now.
I've signed up for disney+ for the year for him, and I'm going to get him a big lego kit to keep him amused.
Other than that, I'm at a loss.

We're in the same boat but DS will be 16.

Shamelessly place marking for ideas

Us too DS said the night Boris announced his 12 week scenario "I won't be having a normal birthday this year will I?"

If, and it's only if, Amazon are allowed to deliver I think Lego will work and possibly a garden game with a giant IOU Grin

Starlight456 · 24/03/2020 08:42

My son has a bucket full of lego.

Boris did say online was staying open for now anyway which is why I want to order now.

I still have minded children here of Keyworkers. I have told him he can have a tea party with preschool children . Not a 13 year olds idea of a party either.

He does like reading so I can order him a couple of books . 13 feels like a big deal and wanted to mark it .

I do realise bigger issues in the world but hoping to make him feel his birthday is still special.

Yes an iou will happen too.

Skateboard
Basketball hoop
Alexa
Magazine subscription
Watch
Cuddly toy
Whatever footwear is fashionable where you like
Pack of playing cards
Waffle maker
Bum bag

Chocolatecake12 · 24/03/2020 20:06

Does he like art? Making things? Baking?
Airfix kits are good. Lego as pp have suggested.
Anything outdoors? New football for the garden? Football kit? Tennis or badminton net and rackets?
A ‘promise’ ticket for a show or dinner out. Or an experience of some kind

TwigTheWonderKid · 24/03/2020 20:22

I made DS a photo book of his first 13 years. It might be a nice thing for the two of you to look at and reminisce with together over the new few months? We also got him a gaming chair but if that's not appropriate, what about a bean bag, or a hammock for the garden? Hand weights?

Re books my DS really enjoyed all the S. E Hinton books ( The Outsiders, Rumblefish etc).

Starlight456 · 24/03/2020 20:24

He does have Alexa. Just bought new clothes ( none uniform school grew out of everything 🙄.

Waffle maker is a top one he loves waffles.

He has no patience so lots of the make a robot/ create this he doesn’t follow instructions so they never work. Same with Lego kits which is why they end up in a bucket. Bag might be a good idea, water bottle also broke.

He plays guitar . No lessons . I have bought books but prefers YouTube. His passion is fortnite 🙄 but any merchandise with fortnite on it is babyish. Was much easier when he lived anything I bought

He does have ADHD

Has he read the Skullduggery Pleasant books OP?

TheNestedIf · 24/03/2020 22:02

How about The Secret Diary Of Adrian Mole Aged 13 3/4 and Wheatus by Wheatus (It has Teenage Dirtbag on it)?

Starlight456 · 25/03/2020 07:04

Skullduggery- no will look that up.

Adrian Mike from what I can remember had lots of discussion about madterbation etc ( am I wrong it was probably about 25 years ago I read it ) he isn’t very emotionally mature and still finds all that stuff gross ( I realise that will change at some point)

Online I found a Fortnite canvas print and also there are Fortnite wall decals. Would he like that.
I’m in a similar situation with my Ds. I’m planning a zoom party - and a real one once life is a little more normal
I’ve asked him what would he like as a birthday cake. Will also cook a special breakfast.
He wants a LEGO kit. I hope I can make his Day special. I might decorate the house too. With some banners and balloons

Flippinfab40 · 25/03/2020 07:18

Some escape rooms are doing an online version where you are emailed clues. Would he enjoy something like that?

Funf · 25/03/2020 07:26

Is he outdoorsy?
Stuff to camp in the garden?
Lego Technical stuff expensive but good.

HelloYouTwo · 25/03/2020 07:31

probably telling you something you already know but I noticed that even Prime deliveries are saying delivery around 20 April. Might not be the case for everything but don’t rely on last minute online orders! (I am currently ordering for a birthday 6 weeks away)

Starlight456 · 25/03/2020 12:53

He is a scout so has loads of camping stuff . He might like the escape rooms.

He is very emotional and upset today so we are having an unschooling afternoon where he can just watch tick tok and escape the world for a while

I’ll be unpopular but I’d buy him a VR for his PlayStation.

Considering the money you’ll save on everything you would have done, it mightn’t be any worse!

It’ll be new. A novelty. So it could get him through weeks or even months!

If you can get a couple of VR games so much the better, but YouTube have videos of rollercoasters and dinosaurs etc for VR.

Also, my ds13 loved the Skullduggery books!
