A question about giving up smoking

BillThePony · 21/03/2020 23:14

I haven't smoked for just under a week, I have no desire to smoke a cig but have had the odd puff on a vape (about 3 puffs 3 times per day)

We are self isolating because DH had a fever the middle of the week (fine now just full of cold)

Since day 2 I have had the most god awful phlegmy throat, is this a normal reaction to not smoking? I feel, otherwise in perfect health no fevers, no colds (I rarely catch colds). Just want to know others experiences

I expect that's all the shit excavating your lungs.

PennyNotSoWise · 21/03/2020 23:55

Yeah, I got this when I quit too. Apparently it's your lungs kicking in again and trying to boot all the shit out Grin Try not to panic too much, probably easier said than done right now, but it sounds normal.

Both myself and dp gave up smoking 4 weeks ago. I had nothing come up, husband coughed up some crap and has had gas - alot! Anyway, I just wanted to say well done really.

Well done! Quitting smoking is hard. (Trust me, I know.) I think it's probably normal as long as neither of you have other symptoms like fever.

BillThePony · 22/03/2020 00:22

That's a relief, I feel very well other than that.

Hopefully will notice the other benefits soon

My skin looks good, so you probably have that to look forward to.

LurpakIsTheOnlyButter · 22/03/2020 01:55

This is totally normal. We all have tiny little hair type things in our upper airways which are designed to move and sweep away the bad stuff (cillia). When you smoke, the chemicals in the cigs paralyse these and they stop working. When you stop smoking they start to wake up again and they help move out what they can. Any long lasting damage is done but by stopping smoking you stop further damage in its tracks.

And everything will smell better and taste better and you are less likely to get infections and you will Have more cash.

So awesome all round, and well done. Keep it up
