Reusable sanitary protection recommendations please?

I’m thinking that now might be a good time to try reusable sanitary protection. Pads rather than mooncups.

Has anyone tried this already and can recommend any brands? There seems to be quite a lot of choice out there!

Honour your flow pads are lovely. Lots of different sizes to suit different flows. They also do a starter pack.

EmmaC78 · 21/03/2020 20:43

I started using the Hey Girls ones and find them good.

NannyR · 21/03/2020 20:49

earthwise girls have a good selection to choose from and there usually a voucher code somewhere on line. They sell trial packs so you can try several brands to see which you like best.
My favourite pads are the imse vimse long pads. They aren't bulky and don't move around in my pants. I've also tried ecofemme which didn't work for me - they weren't long enough, were a bit thick and bulky and slide and don't stay put in my pants. I've also tried Luna pads years ago - they were fine for very light flow but leaked with anything heavier.

I've started using Wear 'em Out pads (found them on Instagram) and they're so good! Really soft, don't really notice I'm wearing them and really good absorbency. I bought a starter pack and used it for my first postpartum period (not pleasant) and they are a game changer. Looking to buy some more when I'm off maternity leave!

Wuka pants. Amazing!

I loved tcs eco

Possibly a stupid question but how do you wash them? Do you just put them in the washing machine with all your clothes?

AwdBovril · 21/03/2020 20:58

I use ImseVimse (mostly as a backup to a Meluna cup, these days, TBH, although I did use them exclusively for a couple of years). Very comfortable, good absorption although I don't generally bleed very heavily. Good range of sizes. Wash & dry well. No idea if they tumble dry?

Yes, I do. I just give them a bit of a rinse first. I am lucky in that my periods are very light so it is not much of an issue.

Fespital · 21/03/2020 21:00

Cheeky wipes pants are excellent. I need extra protection on the first 2 days then after that it's just the pants for the other 5 days.

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 21/03/2020 21:00

I like imse-vimse pads and I also had some pads custom made by a lady on Facebook, I think her business is called maxwell rose.

hey girls menstrual cup from waitrose (I tried a mooncup and coudnt get on with it), earthwise girls for liners.

really glad I moved to reusuables when I did !

AwdBovril · 21/03/2020 21:05

@tectonicplates I put mine to soak in a bucket with water & a few drops of detergent, which I change at least once daily until I can wash them. I usually make sure there's a wash ready to go around the time of my period, & I chose a pad colour that I wear a lot so I can have a small load ready to go in a day or so.

NannyR · 21/03/2020 21:06

I have a small bucket with a lid on the bathroom and I put used ones to soak in it in cold water. When I need to wash them, I put them in the machine on a short, cold rinse cycle, then when that's finished I add the rest of the laundry that needs doing and just run a normal wash. You can tumble dry the ones I use, but line drying them prolongs their life. They usually dry overnight on an airer.

thedailymailisbogroll · 21/03/2020 21:34

@tectonicplates

Nothing special here soaking or rinse-wise. I just throw mine in the washing with the rest of my washing. All I do is make sure I select the longer wash option as opposed to the short wash.
I do tumble dry mine, moreso in the winter but it isnt that great for them. And the hey girls pads are excellent.

PureAlchemy · 21/03/2020 22:12

Thanks all, I’ll go check out the ones suggested Smile

@tectonicplates mine go in the normal wash. My only advice is to not put in fabric conditioner when you wash them as it'll make them less absorbent.

june2007 · 22/03/2020 00:39

Sunlight is good for stains. Earthewise girls, minivivi, imsevimse I got mine from TJ nappies. Don,t recommend fuzzibunz.

TheFirstHorsewoman · 22/03/2020 01:39

I was worried about trying them as they are expensive in terms of initial outlay & I’m on a really limited budget, but ModiBodi are fab. (They’re also linked with Easy Fundraising, btw, so if you support a charity through that you can raise money for them if you remember to go through the app/website first. Felt a bit weird raising money for my Brownies by buying pants, but given I have for years wanted a badge that says “it’s nothing weird, I’m shopping for Brownies”...)

I’ve just got some Thinx ones as well but not yet tried them.
