How's everyone doing this morning?

I'm just enjoying a cup of tea, in silence other than the birds I can hear through the open kitchen window.

It's been a stressful week all round & the time to myself to just sit & think before the day starts is just what I needed.

How are you all doing? :)

It's weird.

We normally have a sports club on Saturday. I normally go shopping.

But I will stop feeling sorry for myself and feed the birds in my garden. I wish we had more space outside. We have a square and two boys who like kicking a ball about.

One of the hardest parts is that poker face in front of the kids.
Husband still complacent.

Got to make a work/learning rota. Mine are y9 but I havent even looked at the various emails from school.

Oldestchild90s · 21/03/2020 11:01

Is anyone else pulling their hair out because they are bored? 😱

lucysmam · 21/03/2020 11:14

@Oldestchild90s I'm usually at work by now & have enjoyed mooching in my dressing gown doing nothing but yes, I'm bored now.

I imagine it'll be worse in the weeks to come.

Atm, I'm considering walking to our local market (which is still on) to pick up some fruit and salad. But then my head is telling me not to be stupid about it because I have 15dc to cook breakfast for on Monday morning :( (school kitchen)

@Arrakis yeah l vote get a takeaway. It’s our 4 year university this weekend and yep no nice meal out! So takeaway it is

We are going to plan food for the week -in the order of using stuff that goes out of date first. Going for a walk, a DVD and some cleaning

Doing ok mentally. Trying not to get too meh and maintain standards e.g. co-ordinated outfit each day

Seeitsortit · 21/03/2020 11:29

Been to local farm shop and got everything we need after checking on my mum and niece.
Checked on dsil and Xh and his new family that they had got all the stuff they need fruit and veg wise.
No frantically trying to find my laptop cable as dp’s laptop going for check over Monday as work has finally realised we need to have wfh option yesterday (but mine laptop isn’t much better - hoping to God he can perform a miracle on one of them!

Currently relaxing with a nice cup of coffee, and shall be planting tomato and courgette seeds later.

I went out earlier as I needed a printer cartridge, Argos was deserted. So was Wilko, where I got bleach and some seed potatoes. So was Boots, which had paracetamol in stock (behind the counter though, so it was a case of sidling up to the pharmacist and saying "Psst... got any paracetamol?") M&S was also nearly empty, but they had what I needed. The farm shop was busier, but carrots aplenty.

Everybody being polite, and keeping their distance.

Mind you, a small town I drove through had a queue for the chemist about 100 yards long, so I'm glad I didn't have to go there.

Natsku · 21/03/2020 11:49

I feel really strange. I guess it's hitting home now that I won't be seeing anyone apart, except at a distance when walking, from my family for weeks, if not months. That I won't be doing the food shop which is something I actually enjoy doing but will have to send OH who hates it.

I've cleaned the house though this morning and now, while DS is napping, I've moved the furniture around to make room to set up an obstacle course for the children. And thinking how to make food last so that OH doesn't need to go to the shop until Monday morning when its hopefully quieter and stocked.

Lovely post OP. Thank you. Flowers
This is what people need to check into when they wake up as opposed to the arguments and vitriol elsewhere. We have to try to be kinder and more compassionate in the face of all the fear that we hold.

I have walked the dog and am sat having a coffee and listening to Kenny Rogers music on Spotify - getting back in touch with old memories. Then I'm off to tackle a bit of gardening - my hoped for sanity project for the next months.

niffynoonoo · 21/03/2020 11:59

its a beautiful spring day. My washing is hung on the line outside..... My chores are done. May mow the grass....

TheOrangeFox · 21/03/2020 12:02

I have some kind of virus. My head feels like it's being stood on, I'm snotty, and there's a lymph node that's so swollen in my neck that the pain is radiating through my ear, neck, and jaw.

Trying to overcome it as there's three kids relying on me and DH is knackered looking after us all. Thank god nobody else seems to have it.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 21/03/2020 12:08

I'm happy that spring is finally here. I'm relieved that Boris Johnson has announced that the government will pay 80% of our salaries if we can't work. My job is non essential at the moment but as a single parent I've still had to arrange for family to care for DS next week so I can go to work, or I would have had no income. Now I know I can take some time off to look after DS myself and we won't suffer.

My mental health will probably suffer over the next few weeks as I thrive on being social and meeting up with family and friends. But I feel calm today.

lucysmam · 21/03/2020 12:18

@niffynoonoo my washing is blowing happily on the line too :)

I'm withered. Had my first full week of wfh while homeschooling ds (6).
His only sibling is a baby so while were stuck in the house, the only person ds has to talk to is me.
I've just put him doing some English with a website log in the school gave him to try and have a cup of coffee on my own. Hes still talking non stop even while doing the English.
I also have PND at the minute and this whole change has really set me back in my recovery. I'm going to get some puzzles ordered and some crafts to try and keep my mind busy.

Terralee · 21/03/2020 12:36

I feel rubbish as had to increase epilepsy meds wed evening & now feel very drowsy & like Im stoned all the time!
But I'm due in at work (HCA in a hospital) tomorrow. Cannot be off sick. So I hope the shift will be an easy one.

I was supposed to go for a country walk with my mum & sister but I've stayed in & chilling out with my cat.

Lovely thread. I always love these threads anyway but especially today. Much more gentle than the vitriol elsewhere.

I’ve had a lazy morning. Although did two loads of washing. Had a nice long shower. DH cooked a nice breakfast of mushrooms on toast with poached egg and avocado.

Sun is shining. Don’t feel like going out though.

I’m a home bird anyway so actually don’t mind staying in. At the moment anyway! That might change.

Have lots of plans for things to do. Lots of books to read. Jigsaws to do. Movies and box sets to watch. And I am going to sort all of our photos. Which will be a mammoth task. Also want to do a family tree which I’ve been meaning to do for years.

I have some wool so might do some knitting or learn to crochet.

Lots to do in the garden although I don’t enjoy it.

Bu today will be a quiet day. Might get DS to help me do some sorting in his room. We redecorated it and he has just moved back in but his stuff is still everywhere.

Have a good day everyone. As much as we can in these times.

Inextremis · 21/03/2020 12:55

Well, I wish it wasn't raining (west of Ireland here), but have been out in our field with the dogs (they insisted), thrown ball, and got damp. DH (who has been told he's WFH as of now, much relief!) phoned the village butcher earlier and has been to pick up beef for roasting tomorrow, some sausages, and bones for the dogs. He's now snoring in his chair after all that exertion! The cat is asleep on my bed, dogs are now asleep at my feet. It's very quiet, there's no wind at all out there, and very little traffic.

I'm feeling pretty positive, given the situation. DH working from home has cheered me up no end. All I need now is a bit of sunshine!

Khione · 21/03/2020 13:19

I watched Saturday Kitchen (all of them 'socially distancing' and decided I had enough of the ingredients in to make the sardine bolognese that was demonstrated.

So I used sardines in tomato sauce rather than oil; Henderson's Relish rather than Worcester Sauce and Soy Sauce; Tomato paste rather than tinned tomatoes and Orzo Pasta rather than Linguine. It still tasted pretty good and was different from things I normally cook so very please with myself.

I'm now wondering if it will freeze successfully or if I am going to have to eat it over the next three days Grin

pastaparadise · 21/03/2020 18:09

Quiet day here, no surprise. My two usually fairly good dc (5 & 3) have been really playing up the last few days, presumeably picking up on our stress. So home ed is basically stopping them from arguing! A run in the garden, jigsaws and imaginary play today, interspersed with ipad to keep my sanity...

Feeling worried I'll be redeployed (NHS but not currently frontline, but already had an email saying we have to be flexible and our jobs may change). I also have to help look after elderley dm who has dementia, so terrified of passing it onto her. Also worrying about dps job and all the possible financial probs if he loses it.

However, trying to remind myself that we are comparatively lucky, the sun is shining, and be grateful all ok so far.

sonjadog · 21/03/2020 18:27

It has been a beautiful early spring day here in Norway and I have been out for a long walk with the dog. Everything seems so much brighter and more positive afterwards. We are about a week ahead of the UK and things have really calmed down here now and people are in the groove of the new lifestyle. Hopefully you will find the same happens in your neighborhoods next week too.
