Isolation advice from Dr's surgery - this doesn't sound right?

My husband asked me to call my docs - I have MS and have been SI from the beginning of this week. He has athsma, but is still at work, as his company are basically arseholes who would rather not shell out for the extra resources needed (laptops etc) to enable him and his colleagues to WFH.

I've just called my doctors surgery to get some official advice, and they've told me that if neither him or me are showing any CV symptoms, we're fine to carry on as we are - ie him coming home to me every night having been in contact with his team and suppliers/ customers all day.

Am i being hysterical, or should the surgery be advising erring on the side of caution here?

(Willing to be told I'm being a drama llama!)

Although it doesn’t make sense I do believe that is in line with current government guidance!

If that's the case, I need to trust the system then, don't I?!

Seems odd though, as we both fall into that 'vulnerable' group.

I do want to keep calm and carry on though!

My husband has high blood pressure, high cholesterol and takes beta blockers
The gp told him to go home and stay at home for 12 weeks

Different reasons, but I fall into the vulnerable group by DH has to keep going to work.
He takes care when he comes in to wash hands then head to the shower before greeting me or the dogs.
Best we can think to do.

The advice isn’t clear enough. I heard that more information about which conditions are involved in the SI category is going to be provided in the next day or so. I have high BP and have been taking 4 drugs for it since my 20s. I’m nearly 60 now. As high BP has been consistently listed since the beginning it’s easier to make the decision to SI. People with auto immune conditions such as MS, IBD, that might not affect the respiratory system haven’t been given clear info yet though.

DD has IBD and is on immunosuppressants. Her white cell levels are consistently ok and the risk of not taking the drugs and having her condition flaring up, which it will, is more risky. She’s currently SI as has a cough and been advised in a general letter to all patients not to take immunosuppressant till she’s well. But as her white cell levels are fine she thinks the advantages of taking it outweighs the risks. It’s so difficult to make informed decisions OP. Let’s hope there’s more info soon. You aren’t being a drama llama. This is an unprecedented situation and you don’t have sufficient info to decide what you need to do as yet.

@ScottyDottyDooDah that is the correct government advice. The issue is they have sort of back tracked with ‘vulnerable’ groups - they came out at the press conference and talked about ‘shielding’ etc and people assumed they meant self isolation (quite understandably as that’s how it came across). However, since then, all issued advice has actually been for strict social distancing which is different - for example I’m pregnant and still expected to go into work

It’s crap and I hope they clarify it further. But unless you are super high risk (chemo, transplant patient etc) then you can technically go out/about as long as you keep your didtance

Also please don’t ‘blame the surgery’ or feel they should have more knowledge/answers as we aren’t being told anymore than you from the government

ScottyDottyDooDah · 20/03/2020 17:39

@bobbypinseverywhere - haven't blamed the surgery, lovey. Just wanted a second opinion Flowers
