LOUD and highly strung DD

Hi,

How can I calm down my DD who is 13?

She has always been very highly strung. As a baby she cried all hours. As a toddler she was a panicker. In primary school she was a drama queen. Now, everything is shouting, screaming and full volume.

She's NT.

Any advice on how I can calm her down and get her to stop the screaming and shouting histrionics? Thank you!

Ignore, ignore, ignore.

If she's NT then at 13 you can tell her to shut up and stop being a drama queen.

Ignore, walk out room.
Highly strung = attention seeking pita

I'd be telling her I'm neither listening to her nor talking with her until she is prepared to talk in a calm and sensible manner, and she can go to her room and stay there until she's calm and quiet.

Long term, has she had any help to learn how to manage her anxiety? CBT worked wonders for my anxious child.

Well, the plus side is you now have a lot of time to break her of her attention seeking habits!

There's a lot of info out here, best of luck!

Burn lots of lavender oil and feed her hot chocolate. They are both calming. Give her tasks to do. If she's like my 13 DS she will have plenty of school work to do to keep her busy. And try yoga. Yoga Upload on YouTube has loads of different free videos.

How do you know she’s NT?

ScabbyHorse · 20/03/2020 13:58

Lots of sympathy here, my DS had a tantrum earlier. You have to ignore them and count to ten. Bloody kids.

What is she screaming about ? Can't you just tell her to pipe down ? My son has sn and if he is too noisy I tell him to stop and he does .
Is she overly anxious ? If so get her some medication or rescue remedy etc .
