I know it's ridiculous isn't it. I went yesterday morning about 7.45 but there was no loo rolls, paracetamol etc. Shelves really empty. There doesn't seem to be a good time at the moment.

DisasterousManagementPlan · 19/03/2020 14:51

There's no good time to go. People are behaving like fools (when everything would have been pretty much normal if people had behaved normal). It's like the food equivalent of phantom traffic jams.

You just have to brave it and then make the best if what's available whenever you do go.

And possibly look sympathetically at the people who have to work in there.

I went out at 8am today and my local (massive Sainsburys) was mobbed and the shelves / aisles / freezers were bare. Up until today fresh food had been OK.

I know Sainsburys have started to offer their first hour to elderly / disabled but it was ransacked by 8am.

Waitrose had slightly more stock (including loo roll and kitchen roll which they were handing out, 1 pack of each per person). The queue time was 45 minutes!!!

Literally the minute the shop opens

PurpleCrazyHorse · 19/03/2020 15:17

It took DH nearly 3hrs to get to/round/home from our local huge Tesco. He arrived at 5:45am, did our usual weekly shop and queued for over an hour. They were spreading the queue out to socially distance plus I think they were short staffed.

Honestly avoid supermarkets and go to local shops instead. My local Spar and pharmacy had plenty of pain killers, tinned food, cleaning products and milk. They were limited on choice of bread but everything else was as usual.

You will pay a premium, but you will have it.

Duchessofblandings · 19/03/2020 15:23

We’re not going out now but the last time I did, 3 days ago, I found that small local shops had plenty of bread, bar soap, milk, bleach, juice and pet food. The local pharmacy had lots of medical alcohol wipes, packet of 50 for £1.60, and loo roll (but we’re limiting to 2 packs, fair enough). Also got 4 tins of big soup and a multi pack of tuna for the church collection, they were well stocked with tins of all sorts.

Maybe worth checking your corner shops rather than the big supermarkets, lots of people overlook them (no, I’m not a shop-keeper).
😁).

Please use local shops 💕

We own a farm shop and have been hammered this week but our shelves are still full our staff are still smiling and our suppliers are still supplying us.

The small independent shops will bend over backwards to help you at the moment as we need you to help us survive.

We are offering delivery and also contactless collection from our shop.

No good time

I’m in the south east & went shopping today. I arrived at the supermarket at 10:30 am

Meat- completely stripped, nothing left!
Freezer section- forget it completely empty
Wine- half stripped Shock 😭
What I did get was pasta, rice, chopped tomatoes which I’ve not been able to get since the greedy arse holes of the country stripped the shelves.
They had plenty of bread too

No fresh fruit or veg ( had to go to M&S food hall for that, was SO well stocked they even had bananas!!)

The supermarket did however have a 2-3 of each item policy in place and it looks like with that stock is starting to become available for us all not just the greedy

Girlwhowearsglasses · 19/03/2020 15:32

Yep our local farm shop had lots of stuff on Tuesday. Lots of meat and veg. Best of luck @wutheringfrights -

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 19/03/2020 15:34

Also managed to get painkillers as well

I get a farm veg box delivered every week. It's got a good selection of veg and lovely potatoes. We get our milk delivered. DH went to town today and got apples, fresh bread and toilet roll. No issues if you can shop locally. Please support your small shops - now and in the future.

Duchessofblandings · 19/03/2020 15:42

Tiny positive I’m taking from this, like lots of people I had no idea that we had so many great little shops within a few minutes (normally) walk, slightly off the beaten track. Well, know now and will try to remember them even when the “normality” of busy life resumes again, which it will, and we’re all back to trying to save 10 minutes here and there.

MarshaBradyo · 19/03/2020 15:43

I’m going to do local shops too
