What would your normal life have looked like today?

It's technically my day off today. I would have done a bit of marking before my yoga class, then gone to visit my sister who's just had a mastectomy. Then my parents were coming over and we were all going to go and watch DD's school musical they've been rehearsing for for months.

None of that is happening. It's so weird, like everything's stopped.

We're not having as bad a time as many many people at the moment and we're thankful for that. But I feel like I blinked and real life just disappeared.

Pretty much the same, just with more people around.

It's Thursday which is generally my playdate day so I might have been seeing a friend. But not much else really.

willowpatterns · 19/03/2020 17:32

I would have gone to work, and on the way home I'd have gone to buy some cat litter, two birthday cards and a few vegetables. Then come home, had a cup of tea, emptied the washing machine and put another load on, had another cup of tea and sat down to browse MN for a bit.

All of which I have done.

What I won't be doing is going to a committee meeting that I was supposed to be at this evening.

My day has been a normal day. Dropped the youngest at breakfast club, go to work (the college I work in is still open until tomorrow), pick up youngest on way home from work, when eldest got home we went to get some supplies for tea from Aldi (bloody mayhem!) and to the bank to bank a cheque. Now back home to cook tea, do homework and then relax before we start again tomorrow. Will be very, very strange next week. No school, no work, DH might be working from home when allowed. I think that is when it will really hit home.

We are, of course, practising social distance where possible, although it has been impossible today at work in classrooms and shared spaces. No hot water in the toilets to wash hands either.

Have also told my parents who are in their 70’s to stay in and I will shop for them and drop it at the door. They are finally realising that they are at risk and that home is the safest place for them.

Would be arriving home from the office about now. Kids would be home from school.

All change now. I'm working from home and trying to keep the family in good routines. We are lucky but it's not easy and this is only Day 2! Taking it day by day.

hannabarbera · 19/03/2020 18:45

My day is like any other. Work. And kids been to school. Only difference is im on my 2nd large white wine as my daughter is 18 today!

bluechameleon · 19/03/2020 18:47

I would have been at work as a teacher at a special school. I would have been singing, splatting shaving foam, blowing bubbles, waving scarves, pouring coloured water and generally making everything as exciting as possible to try to engage the children. But instead I have been in self-isolation so I've been making cardboard models, doing exercise videos, reading, playing board games and making scrapbooks to try to entertain my own two children.

motortroll · 19/03/2020 18:49

Planning my guides meeting and picking up stuff for it. The rest of the day was pretty much the same as usual as I'm not working anyway. Once the kids finish it'll be alllll change! AND I'm going back to work!

HowIrresponsible · 19/03/2020 18:51

I would have gone to work. Had a coffee. Had lunch. Come home.

That's what I did today.

TreacherousPissFlap · 19/03/2020 18:52

No change at all Confused

I'm "essential staff" so have been in bed after a night shift. DS went to school but has been told not to come in tomorrow. DH still at work for the time being.

I'm guessing things will change soon, but for now things are very calm.

notangelinajolie · 19/03/2020 18:55

I think I have it but my life today is just the same as it normally is. I don't go out really so it makes no difference to me.

CallmeAngelina · 19/03/2020 18:57

Pretty much as it has worked out - except for the doubled workload in trying to plan, copy and deliver differentiated work (that can be done without much prior teaching) for 30 children for the next two weeks.

It's annoying me quite a lot to hear everyone talking about the need for self-isolation, social distancing and possible lock-down, unless you're a primary school teacher, (or other select professions) in which case, just get on with it, provide your own handsoap and stop moaning. (other professions can state their own cases on this one).

Dowser · 19/03/2020 19:20

Imwouldve gone into town to get what was needed.
Seen my daughter
Seen my son.
Oh, I did do that lol

VenusOfWillendorf · 19/03/2020 19:47

I would have taken the tram to work, had lunch during the weekly lunchtime knitters club at work. I should have gone to a restaurant after work for friends birthday, followed by a drink before taking the tram home. Its what last Thurs looked like, except went for a post-work drink instead of the birthday dinner.

Instead, I went downstairs to work online - my office is closed, as ordered by the government. The trams can only be used by key workers anyway. I went to the local supermarket at lunchtime, hoping they'd have veggies now as there havent been any since Saturday. There is limit in the supermarkets of 1 person per 10 square meters, so I was given my number so they could monitor that. Yay, lots of vegetables but no milk or pasta. I worked at home in the afternoon then had a skype call and vitual drink with my birthday friend. I need a new headset but the only shops open are supermarkets and pharmacies. The non-food or household items are blocked off to deter people from going shopping. So I ordered the headset online.

I have not had a face to face conversation with anyone since last Friday. Week one of a life in lock-down!
I live in Switzerland. We have the second highest number of cases per million people, after Italy.

radioband · 19/03/2020 19:49

I would of been at work all day, I'd of come home and moaned how much I hated my job and need to find another. I'm still doing my job but with as little contact as possible with others. My previous thoughts seem so far away now, just trying to get through each passing day.

lachy · 19/03/2020 19:53

No real change for me.

Still worked, just not at a desk.

I8toys · 19/03/2020 19:55

Going into work. Kids and husband going to school.

Looking forward to seeing my parents at the weekend and celebrating mums day, my son having a party on Saturday with his friends. Finalising my plans for our holiday at Easter. Seems like a dream now even since Monday.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 19/03/2020 19:58

I am at drama school studying for a post-grad acting qualification. Today I should have taking my stage combat exams in batons and hand-to-hand. Instead my school closed on Tuesday, exams and shows are postponed indefinitely, and I am self-isolating with a horrible cough and chest pain. 😖

Whenwillthisbeover · 19/03/2020 20:01

I wan anyway, today was like any other, other than the bloody mania that was Tesco. Any other Thursday I would have done Morrisons further from home and leisurely shopped for lovelies rather than essentials.

Duckchick · 19/03/2020 20:21

Today should have been my first Mother's day assembly for DC1, who is in reception. Afterwards, I'd have gone to toddler playgroup with DC2 and 3 for the morning.

Both the assembly and the playgroup were cancelled. Instead, I went to the supermarket straight after drop off to have a first stab at our weekly shop - DH will have a 2nd go for the stuff I couldn't get tomorrow. We then came home. At school pick up today, we got given workpacks for the kids for next week.

Compared to some we are incredibly lucky - we have food in the cupboards and DH's job should be safe for the next couple of months. I've still felt on the edge of tears all day, I'm.just feeling overwhelmed by the speed at which things have gone to s**t for everybody.
