Word on a Macbook

twosoups1972 · 18/03/2020 14:28

I want to install Word on dd's laptop which is a MacBook. My older dds also have MacBooks and I seem to remember paying to install it on their devices.

Does anyone know if this is a one-off fee and is it only for one device? Will I have to pay again for dd's MacBook?

Check whether she can log in with her school account - some schools have access to office 365 for their students.

It’s online now - part of Office 365. You can install one subscription on two devices.

If money is an issue you can use Google Docs free and save files as .doc

It depends on what Office package you bought.

You can buy lifetime versions of Office, which is generally for a single user.

You can also buy yearly (365) subscriptions which can be for 1, 3 or 5 users.

Log into Office.com, go to subscriptions and services and you'll see what versions you have and if you have additional downloads available.

You can use the free app Pages. It can edit word documents though you lose some formatting / other details. You can convert Pages documents to Word or PDF so they can be opened by non Mac users. Same with the Mac spreadsheets app.

Open Office is another free package, it's essentially exactly the same as Microsoft Office suite but free!

Another vote for google docs. Almost identical to word and also compatible with word (you can use it to open word docs and also export goodie docs as word docs). Google also has sheets which is almost the same as excel and compatible with excel.

No it’s got to be Word. She’s on the autistic spectrum and that’s what she wants.
