Working from home - the laziness!

I've been working from home for a grand sum of 4 hours now and I feel so lazy. How do you get exercise if you do this regularly?

I've usually walked to diffefent offices, the toilets on different floors, even the kettle is further away than it is at home!

Looking forward to a run later and I hate running 😠

I’m working from home but absolutely nothing to do... so loving it!

Went for run this morning and even yoga class! (Last one as studio now shut)

Do you have stairs? I run up and down stairs to get blood flowing, it’s fun, do it several times a day.

Also have radio on all day which helps.

I’ve been WFH for many years

I'm working at home and instead of my usual commute, I've done an hour of gardening. By the end of this, I'll have the best garden in the street

I do work at home regularly (weekly) so I'm fairly disciplined. But the thought of not physically moving far is doing my head in.

MrsJBaptiste · 18/03/2020 12:58

I think you just don't realise how much you move without thinking about it - walking through the car park, up and down the stairs to the loo, in and out of different offices, down to the canteen for lunch.

Not actual exercise but moving at least!

I’ve just done a yoga with Adriene session in my lunch break - lots of free classes of different lengths, so might do another 10min one this afternoon.

I also have gardening to do, but my DP took the garage keys to work with him today, so I can’t get in to where we keep all the equipment. He’ll be working from home too from tomorrow though.

Go for walk at lunchtime - make sure you actually take a break at lunchtime.

Kirstiesmith1234 · 18/03/2020 14:14

Likewise, I work from home but do have to be strict with myself about not raiding the fridge 😀 I make sure what would be commuting times, are exercise times, so a walk or a run. Then lunch break is also a walk so at least I get out and get some fresh air rather than being sat in all day.

Potentially a bit dangerous, but I've also managed to connect my laptop to the turbo trainer, so I can work whilst cycling!! (Probably not for everyone, it looks a bit ridiculous!!!!)

Bigsighall · 18/03/2020 14:16

Do any conference calls on your phone and pace around. Saves sitting down all day!

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 18/03/2020 14:19

Soon as i get given a laptop i'm working from home. Seriously considering a lunchtime yoga online lesson or a brisk walk round the block every day. I'm going to be porky when this is over.

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 18/03/2020 14:20

Oh stairs is a good idea Sparkling. Got lots of those. Prob fall over the cat though Grin

DelurkingAJ · 18/03/2020 14:25

I suspect I will be healthier due to fewer chocolate bars...at home I can have a biscuit rather than a whole bar!

Cheesypotato · 18/03/2020 14:31

I have worked from home for over 5 years now! I now have a stand/sit desk but you can hodge podge something together by stacking things on your desk if you want to do some standing! I walk my dogs every morning before work and at lunch time I go for a walk or do yoga and have my lunch in a different room, not at my computer as it's easy to lose break times working from home.

ComtesseDeSpair · 18/03/2020 14:33

I walk two miles each way as part of my commute and am missing that. Also just generally wandering around the office. Fortunately, I live close to the Thames so am doing a 10km run on my “lunch break” most days to balance it out.

drspouse · 18/03/2020 14:33

I didn't take much of a lunchbreak but DS is being picked up by his regular after school babysitter so I'm going out for a walk just before they get here as it's easier if I'm out!
I'm also about to hang up the first lot of washing and put another lot on.
I usually would go to the shops most lunchtimes (or at about 4.45 pm if DS is being looked after/DD in after school club but I'm minimising that at the moment).

Handbag101 · 18/03/2020 14:44

Yes me too. Daily commute into London and I'll be working from home until the end of July. It is amazing how much walking you do without realising. Toilet, printer, kettle. Ill be walking every lunchtime as I normally do that in my lunchtime anyway.. I think my gym might shut in the next couple of days so I'll be trying to go for a run in the evening and body weight exercises at home......

MutteringDarkly · 18/03/2020 14:48

I'm a regular remote-worker and I second the advice about doing all phone calls walking around Grin I do lots of pacing. Heartily recommend a silly dance round the kitchen every time you boil the kettle too.

I do have to set timers to move as well though, otherwise I can find I've got stuck in front of my laptop screen and hours have passed...
