Baby not pooped in two days

Hi looking for reassurance. My boy is 9 weeks old EBF, and hasn't been for a poo since Sunday night?. I've read that this can be normal in breastfed babies over 6 weeks is this correct? He keeps straining like he's trying to go every now and again he is also a little irritable.

Still feeding fine, sleeping and playing.
Any ideas? TIA x

Yep, completely normal. If you are worried try a warm bath, bicycling legs, anticolic massage or put your favourite baby grow on him.

ChelseaCat · 18/03/2020 08:13

@selfsettling3 - love your last suggestion! Never fails!

Totally normal. As PP says, favourite babygrow often works. Or putting him in something white. Or going out without a change of clothes 🤷‍♀️

Yes, normal. My EBF DS went 2 weeks before an epic poop!

Rupert10 · 18/03/2020 08:17

Smile Thanks. I hope he goes soon. We tried a warm bath last night Will do again today and keep doing bycicle legs. As long as it's normal. First time mum so have no idea x

Yes it is usual for ebf to not poop as much. I am intrigued about this babygro thing though Confused

We had a lot of trouble with our DS. He got to 5 days. It was unbearable and I totally freaked out. Went to the GPS with him and she checked him over. She said it was ok - he had a bit of a virus but she thought it would pass naturally. It did when we got home. My god, did it!

Apparently the health worker said there's a switch over with the digestion - not sure when it is now but that can mess with their routine.

They wanted to know if he's had wet nappies though. If he isn't peeing either then that's more of a concern.

You could try bicycle kicks and stimulating the anus with a wet flannel. Apparently in the wild, animals lick (I know, gross, but I didn't make it up) the area to get them to poop.

We had a couple of weeks where they were days apart and it scared me to death, but he was fine in the end.

I did the wet flannel i drew the line at licking, with one of my FF babies and it works.

Perfectly normal. DDs record was 12 days. You'll soon get used to the term Poonami

MsSquiz · 18/03/2020 08:35

My DD is 2 months and we find putting her in her vibrating chair, with it on the highest setting guarantees a poop!
She is combi-fed (always has been) and only poops once a day

katmarie · 18/03/2020 08:35

I find taking dd to grandma's house if she hasn't pooped for a couple of days seems to do the trick, she always manages to have an epic poonami there for some reason. But also the favourite babygrow works, or something lovely, white and brand new, in my experience! I'm on my second EBF baby, and they both went days between poops at that age, dont worry. :)

Oh god no - didn't actually do it! Just that's what the flannel is meant to imitate.

We had limited success with that. Worked like a dream initially, but I think he got used to it. The 5 day spell was horrendous.

Rupert10 · 18/03/2020 13:30

He has gone woo. However it was very gloopy and like yellow green come of smooth consistency sorry it too much info! Is this normal?

Mine would go weeks without a poo on EBF. Absolutely normal and healthy

Isthistrueor · 18/03/2020 15:08

Completely normal, my DS went anything up to ten days at a time.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 18/03/2020 15:51

Again it all sounds perfectly normal. Unless he’s actually crying with discomfort or he’s gone ever 2 weeks without a poo, there’s no need to worry. Even after 2 weeks it’s just recommended to investigate, not necessarily to take action Smile
