Anyone know about burglar alarms please?

Hi, I need some help with my burglar alarm; does anyone here know about the PIRs (passive infrared sensor) that are up in the corner of internal rooms to detect motion?

I just had to move my bedroom downstairs due to disability. The room I am now using has a PIR in the corner of it. So I can't set my alarm for the rest of the house at nighttime and then just walk about in my new bedroom, as the alarm goes off.

I want to alarm the rest of the house as I'm on my own with the kids and it makes me anxious.

Does anyone know if I can just cover it up with eg gaffa tape? Or would I have I remove it? If the latter would it be wired into my house electrics or don't they work like that?

Before someone comes along and tells me to just try, I am disabled. I can't get up on the step ladder and the kids are too young. I will ask a neighbour to help but only once I know what I am asking him to do!

Do you rent or own your home? If rented I would.ask the landlord consort it out. If you own it who fitted the alarm can you call them. Some are wired in but most connect to the alarm box wirelessly.

I own.
Installer appears to have gone out of business, hence my question here.

I've googled it and apparently tape or paint will work.

Tape should work fine as a bodge fix. Make sure it's thick gaffer tape and completely covers the sensor.

If you want it doing properly, it's probably going to be tricky to sort without a professional. Most burglar alarms are locked down with an installer code so there's little a home owner can do, and they're pretty tamper resistant.

@ItsGoingTibiaK when you say completely covers, do you mean just the opaque bulbous part of the PIR? Or the entire thing including plastic casing which is about 15cm tall?

@Bunnybigears thank you, you've had more success with google than I did. I did try, promise.

It will only be the actual screen bit if you see what I mean that you have to cover but I would overlap with the plastic casing as well just to be sure. I went down a random rabbit hole of people blocking infrared sensors on other things because I dknt think the alarm.people actually want to tell you how to disable their alarms. Good luck.

@Bunnybigears thank you!

Just the bulbous-y part. Does your sensor have an LED that lights up when it detects movement? If so, that's going to make your job a lot easier!

OP, if you can identify and post the make of the system better advice could be given.

dependant on the panel type you could probably find a local company to sort his out for a small fee. Most systems can be re-programmed so that in home mode that detector is isolated, but if you go out and set the away mode then the whole system is on.

Short-term, you can cover over the sensor cover. Covering the detector use isn't necessary.

detector case not detector use Grin

Also, some of the more modern detectors, usually dual-technology Grade 3 devices have anti-mask detection and covering them sets the alarm off!!
