Piles!

Hi there all,

I’m 22 weeks pregnant and have the worst piles - sorry for the info haha.

I was told to use Anusol by the doctor but when I went to pick it up... the pharmacist said not to use it. I have now resorted to natural remedies i.e Epsom salt bath, ice... that’s it so far.

Any advice please?

Thanks so much!

You poor, poor girl. Its so painful! Flowers

I find a tablespoon of ground linseed on my breakfast keeps things regular (you can get packs in lidl, it's kept with the nuts - they also sell a chia seeds mix in the same section but they give me problems in the bum department... ).

If I eat rubbish, especially simple carbs, I'm in trouble. Complex carbs (brown rice/pasta/flour), lots of veg and fruit are the thing, and drink lots of water.

Oh it's so crap! I'm sure pregnancy is meant to make as all glowy etc. Do you know why the pharmacist said no? I used it in both pregnancies. I actually stopped using it the second time as I found it easier to 'pop then back in' in the shower. It's what the midwife recommended. Ps. I'm 3onths post partum and they've gone ! I was worried I'd be stuck with them

6 or 7 Dried prunes and lots of water will soften everything up after a few days, introduce them over a few days to get up to 6. Cold compresses even using cold baby wipes pressed on them. I think Anusol along with hoards of other creams and meds is not actually licensed for use during pregnancy but is routinely used.
Zinc oxide creams (like Sudocrem) are often recommended.

I had the exact same thing when I went to buy anusol with my massive baby bump.

I spoke to the GP afterwards who tutted and said that on balance the benefit to me for pain relief etc outweighed the tiny risk to baby due to it not being licenced for use in pregnancy.

I used it for the rest of the pregnancy, on prescription from the GP.

Witch hazel worked really well for me.
