Why would anyone think this was a good idea?

Relative has phoned suggesting we celebrate Mother’s Day as planned by congregating in his house and all having dinner together ... in that there’ll be about 10 of us . Mixture of NHS and big office staff, school pupils, very elderly , two people with CHD and two with respiratory issues, one that’s quite problematic/needing relatively frequent support .

I’m right aren’t I, that to even suggest that is absolutely ludicrous ?? Relatives think it’s a grand idea and we’ll have a lovely evening if we all wash our hands repeatedly ... I’m erring on the side of it being a melting pool of viruses ! Am I right to say no, I’m not willing to get involved?

YANBU, it’s a rubbish idea!

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 17/03/2020 17:02

A Ridiculous idea, dont do it

otherpeoplesinsanity · 17/03/2020 17:15

Thank you, that’s what I thought . I’m going to be called all sorts but I’m horrified that anyone involved thinks it’s OK .

DM happily saying it’s perfectly fine as ‘we’re all family’ and ‘we can’t ignore each other for the next three months’ . I can’t understand what’s so hard to grasp about it .

Apart from anything else DM has been complaining of breathlessness this evening, and should be self isolating Hmm

We cancelled our similar arrangements a week ago. Stupid dangerous idea.

Vargas · 17/03/2020 17:23

I'm fairly relaxed about my own health, but no way would I mix with this group of people. Your family are bonkers!!

RhymingRabbit3 · 17/03/2020 17:23

This is the problem with BJ saying that older people etc should self isolate "from the weekend". People have set the weekend as some sort of deadline and are trying to fit in all social engagements before then. Its madness.

Vargas · 17/03/2020 17:24

To clarify, no way would I endanger these people by joining them, no matter how many times I washed my hands. Bonkers.

Nquartz · 17/03/2020 17:24

Absolute morons the lot of them.

THIS is precisely why we need enforced lock down

TheReluctantCountess · 17/03/2020 17:25

People seem to think that washing their hands will stop them from getting Covid. It might decrease the risk, but it doesn’t offer 100% protection.

otherpeoplesinsanity · 17/03/2020 17:28

I can’t understand it at all . I’m at high risk of complications as is DM, my grandmother can’t walk 100metres without being breathless and yet another relative too has a ruddy pacemaker . I don’t get it . I’m being blamed for it too .

Blamed for saying it’s absolute stupidity, I mean .

Absolutely no way op. It’s a real shame the message is not getting theough to people.

Icecreamdiva · 17/03/2020 18:55

The very old and the very young seem to be in denial about this. My 22 yo son has just stomped upstairs in a huff because I insisted on him washing his hands in the downstairs loo when he got home from work in central London. I’m not isolating myself at home, bored out of my brain just to pick up CV from the bannisters!

StandardPoodle · 18/03/2020 18:57

Just........no.
