Just seen this on my work Facebook group. I think it's a great idea.

MN team- please leave this in chat so more people see it.

That’s fantastic of McDonald’s to offer this!

ScottyDottyDooDah · 17/03/2020 13:27

Fake news for the moment, I think. Shame

QuestionableMouse · 17/03/2020 17:19

It's not fake. It was shared to my work group by my business manager. It is very much real.

I really hope that this is true

HindsightIs2020 · 17/03/2020 17:26

It's specific McDonalds. It is not a UK wide thing.

ShowOfHands · 17/03/2020 17:27

Some places already do this all the time anyway. DH knows exactly where to go for free coffee whilst on shift. He gets free bus travel as well!

LaureBerthaud · 17/03/2020 17:29

Shameless PR.

Notquitethefirestarter · 17/03/2020 20:57

Not anywhere near the same but when I used to volunteer in a large call centre for Children in Need taking calls until the early hours, McDonald’s donated meals for everyone. I always thought how generous. The local franchises are owned by one man so he must be nice!

redeyetonowheregood · 17/03/2020 23:45

If this is true it is lovely, but I feel the supermarket staff need it as much, if not more, than we do right now! I am NHS and happy to be there doing my job, but the poor people at my local Waitrose have had a lot of abuse over the last few days, I would like to find a way to thank them.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 18/03/2020 00:20

I've got it in a marketing email direct from McD , so yes it is legit and nationwide.

QuestionableMouse · 18/03/2020 00:41

It's nationwide.

However we're going to take out/DT only which is kinda scary.

QuestionableMouse · 18/03/2020 00:43

Also if anyone doesn't believe I'm legit, ask the mods to check me out. Been posting on here for a while under the same name and I've posted where I work a few times. I'm not hiding anything. I just wanted to get the word out.

BogRollBOGOF · 18/03/2020 08:14

I've seen it on McDonalds own promotional material.
I did quip the other day that McDonalds drive thru would probably stay open, and partly because they are well used by the emergency services. My DCs have had lovely chats with the armed response unit in a nearby branch that nearly always has police passing by. It must be the safest place in town Grin

IndieTara · 18/03/2020 10:43

Prêt are apparently doing it too

maryboleyn · 18/03/2020 11:06

does that apply to carers who travel from house to house?

QuestionableMouse · 18/03/2020 11:21

I'd give carers a free drink. Ask, because it's down to the person on till. Helps if you have ID from work to show.

I'm in tomorrow and it's going to be so weird with it being take out only. We have procedures in place to make it as low contact as possible.

YouForgetYourself · 18/03/2020 11:26

What is DT?

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 18/03/2020 13:07

Drivethrough (or in McD speak "Drive Thru" Grin )

lurker101 · 18/03/2020 13:09

When I worked there (around 5 years ago) on shift emergency personnel always got free hot drinks. I thought it was a great idea.

Crinkle77 · 18/03/2020 13:14

What about the unsung heroes such as retail staff who are also working flat out and dealing with a lot of flack from the public. They always get forgotten about.

iloveredwine · 18/03/2020 13:35

Just saw on Twitter pret is doing it as well

QuestionableMouse · 18/03/2020 13:44

Honestly I think all customer service workers are in the same boat.

I had an extremely rude man back me up against the wall this morning because I told him he couldn't sit inside. It was really scary. ☹️ He was swiftly removed but it's happening all over. ☹️☹️☹️

I dont drive can I walk through a drive through ?
never though of doing this before even though in the summer I often take my food away to eat in the local park

Yogawoogie · 18/03/2020 18:26

It’s lovely. I think Pret and dominos are doing similar.
When we got snowed in last year someone brought hot chocolate, marshmallows etc to all of the wards!

QuestionableMouse · 18/03/2020 18:33

No you can't walk through DT but most stores are open so you can go in to buy food to take away.

There's sensors and stuff in DT that pick up each car and start the order. A single human on foot won't trigger them, and you run the risk of being knocked over.
