Stopped smoking at 7 weeks

I’m 18 and currently pregnant at 7 weeks, will be 19 by the time the baby is due. I will be a single mother as the baby’s father doesn’t want any involvement as he feels he’s ‘too young’ which I understand. I know I’m very young to have a child but I cannot bear the thought of an abortion. I haven’t told my father yet but I’m also scared for what the future holds. I have stopped smoking for a few days now but I’m really worried if I have caused any damage even this early on. I just need some friendly advice :) !

Well done for stopping. I know it’s hard but try not to worry! Focus on the good you can do now eg taking the right vitamins etc.

Im currently taking pregnacare multivitamin tablets which was recommended to me. I'm just wondering if there would be significant damage to my baby as I was a heavy smoker before I found out I was pregnant last week. I hope not!!

You can not worry about what you can,t change, concentrate on what you can. Well done for stopping smoking. See if there are any parent groups aimed at younger parents in your area, they may be able to give more targettted support. (But appreciate no for everyone.)

Thank you for the advice :). Also to add, I have been getting sharp sudden hip pains (mainly on my right side) and down my right leg. It isn't severe but can be uncomfortable a times.Should I be worried?

The main risk to the baby when you smoke at or before 7 weeks is miscarriage. If it hasn't happened, then by stopping smoking you have immediately given your baby the best advantage during pregnancy. Congratulations! You sound like a very sensible, mature young person and already like a responsible mum. Best of luck!
