Baby chair

My baby is not quite 6 months old but probably not far off being able to sit unaided. We have a baby bjorn bouncer which has been so good for us but once they can sit unaided you have to remove the bounce. This will be incredibly boring for them as they love bouncing. I’m looking for recommendations for a little chair that we can strap them into and keep them occupied. We’re looking along the lines of for fisher price sit me up. Any other recommendations?

I have a baby bjorn chair and an 11 month old. I only stopped using it a couple of weeks ago and no idea you could / had to “remove the bounce” 🤔

As well as continuing to use the baby bjorn you could put the baby in the high chair with some toys and/ or just sit the baby on the floor with some toys.

I have this chair and my 16wo is so not interested! Cries every time he's in it and doesnt know how to make himself bounce. What age did your LO bounce himself?? I had assumed it was after 6 months but I guess not if you then have to 'stop the bounce ' ?

At 6 months I would use a high chair for sitting, with toys on the tray, and a walker or jumperoo type thing

OhNoNoNoNotThatOne · 15/03/2020 19:45

I usually sit ds on the floor in a blanket with some cushions as he likes to bounce himself forward and topples 🙄
I did have a bumboo but he tipped that over because of his self bouncing.

My friend gave me her old chicco pocket (like the picture) they're about £20 in Boots and he's happy in it.

@FinallyGotAnIPhone just double checked the info label and it states do not use the bouncer once your child can sit unaided. I know you can turn the cover round but baby will be far to little to not be secured into anything.

I can’t remember exactly when they started to bounce but we didn’t buy it until they were about a month old. Could vigorously bump by 3 months - will be sad when they can no longer use it!

Is that too young for the Jumperoo (aka the circle of neglect)? I can't remember what age we started using that but both of mine loved bouncing in it. Buy it secondhand as you'll only use it for a few months. And they are massive so prepare to give up your living room!

Cacaca · 15/03/2020 20:18

We already have a jumperoo for when big enough. Just fancied a little chair for the living room as they do love sitting looking about and theres only so long you can have them on your lap!

I stopped using the baby Bjoern chair around that age and didn’t buy anything else, both children just sat on the floor when they wanted to sit down or were carried round by me as before.
10 month old now just amuses herself crawling and cruising round while I do things in the same room. She wouldn’t want to be constrained in a chair.

For when I need to put her down and make sure she can’t move because I’m taking something out of the oven or whatever I pop her in the highchair for a minute.

The fisher price one is good, DS used to sit in it when I had a shower

But other than that, I just used to sit mine in my breastfeeding pillow, worked a treat

I think some just don’t do it.
My first loved bouncing himself up and down in it by about 3-4 months. Stopped using it when sitting unaided.
My second never really bounced in it. She did it once so I knew she was able but it didn’t seem to be something she tried to do.

One like this. Super cheap, small enough to stash anywhere and provides plenty of support

We have this exact issue. We are still using the bouncer because DS is still a bit wobbly but I'm loathe to get rid of it because it's so convenient. We have just bought a Mamas and Papas seat from Amazon - I think it's called a baby snug seat? It's not quite as good as the bouncer but he can sit in it (and can't get out) and has lots of bits he can play with so seems to be a fairly good option for us for now.

FinallyGotAnIPhone · 15/03/2020 21:25

Ah right ! My baby has never bounced himself in the chair though I don’t think. It’s a great chair. Practical for putting the baby in when you’re in the shower !

I also had a junperoo until he started to crawl.

So in summary I’d say

  • baby bjorn chair don’t worry about the whole bounce thing unless baby is climbing out
  • junperoo
  • high chair
