How to deal with 13 year old ds leaving shit streaks in the toilet?

It's driving me nuts! He's just got back from a week long school trip and here we are again. I know it must be him now because I haven't had to deal with it for a week. One day back and I've cleaned it twice.

We don't have a toilet brush as I hate them but I'm not expecting him to clean below the water line, just wipe it off with a bit of tissue! Before any suggests a brush I wouldn't trust him to use it hygienically anyway, he's very careless.

Please help!

You’ve let him get to 13 without bothering to teach him how to shit properly. If you don’t want skids and you don’t want a toilet brush, he needed to be taught to put loo paper in the pan before he begins shitting, but to be honest that saying about “give me a child until 7 and I will give you the man” is very true.
You’ve left it too late, but you can pass him off to his future wife and she can moan about you.
Why wait until he’s virtually an adult to expect him to learn how to shit? You’re the reason so many MIL’s are such a fucking pain in the arse! (No pun intended) you’ve spoiled your little Prince by teaching him that someone else will happily clean his shitty skids. Quit moaning and get scrubbing, his future wife/husband has far more years of cleaning up after your child.

cheeseismydownfall · 15/03/2020 18:44

Get a silicon toilet brush. Total game changer. Nothing like the revolting traditional ones. We have three kids and since getting silicon brushes they are all able to clean up after themselves, including the 7 year old. No need to use beach or chuck brushes into landfill every few months.

Oh and I gave them all a lesson on to use it by smearing toothpaste in the bowl and making them each clean it off until I was satisfied!

Yallreadyforthis · 15/03/2020 18:44

But if you wipe shit off your own ass, surely you can wipe it off the loo?

Or, keep a small jug in the bathroom, wash your hands, by the time you're done the water is nice and hot, fill jug and pour over poo. It melts it right off.
Anyone, any age can do this.

isabellerossignol · 15/03/2020 18:47

Surely covering it in bleach doesn't get rid of it? It just bleaches it so that you can't see it.

Toilet brushes are fine as long as you never ever use it when there is toilet roll in the bowl, and make sure to rinse it in the flush of the toilet so that there aren't bits of poo on it. I've always had a toilet brush and it has never been left festering in a bowl of pooey water.

amusedbush · 15/03/2020 18:50

You can get a toilet brush for £1 and then replace it often if you need to. I’ve got a more expensive silicone one so I sit it in boiling water with bleach.

Just brush the poo and rinse it in the flush, it’s not dirty or messy?

PhoneTwattery · 15/03/2020 18:52

With no toilet brush YABU.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 15/03/2020 18:53

Well he can't help it, so it's not like making him clean it will stop it from happening. Bleach if you really won't have a toilet brush.

Ozziewozzie · 15/03/2020 18:54

If course bleach doesn’t just bleach it so you can’t see it. It’s not invisible ink. Bleach kills germs and breaks stuff down. Same as kitchen cleaner, spray it and it’s easier to wipe away whilst killing bacteria. Toilet brushes notoriously have germs and chemicals on, hence not wanting a toddler to waft it around.

For gods sake just get a loo brush. Teach him how to use it properly and keep it in water mixed with bleach. After you’ve cleaned the loo, flush it with the brush still in the bowl to help clean the brush off before you put it back in the receptacle.

If you get a loo brush you stand a chance of actually solving your problem. Asking anyone, let alone a 13 yo boy, to stick their hand in the loo and wipe off stubborn smears of shit, is asking to be disappointed. I’m the first person to moan about people who don’t clean the loo after them but it helps if you actually give them something to do it with.

mollymoggs · 15/03/2020 18:57

Squirt under the toilet rim all the way round with bleach- no need for a toilet brush and sure he can manage this.

Northernsoullover · 15/03/2020 18:58

@Ozziewozzie this cracks me up. I have an avocado bathroom (joys of renting) if it were true it just bleached it I'd have white skids dating back 3 years. It does indeed break it down.
Anyway I just get the kids to put bleach down if they make a mark. I don't bleach the loo for bleaching sake (ie around the toilet bowl every night)

PerfectParrot · 15/03/2020 19:00

I wouldn't clean skid marks using just an ungloved hand and some toilet roll. Putting your hand inside a toilet is gross - it has other people's germs in it. Yuk.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 15/03/2020 19:02

No toilet brushes in this house either. Eughhhhhh!! But I am still working on 17 yr old D's who still leaves loo in a pickle sometimes. I expect same as OP. At least clean it above waterline. I too make it clear a wife would not put up with it.

millymae · 15/03/2020 19:04

I truly don’t understand why toilet brushes are so hated -we’ve all used them in our family for years and no-one has ever come to any harm.
At the moment I’m using one of the Joseph Joseph ones that has a spatula rather than a brush and I for one would much prefer to use this than sticking my hand down the toilet with paper or using copious amounts of bleach.
I’ve learned that all toilets are not equal when it comes to marking - ours is one that marks on the base rather than the sides so to my way of thinking something with a handle is more hygienic and better for the environment.

Ozziewozzie · 15/03/2020 19:28

@Northernsoullover Grin We do however have skewers for poking the non flushable floaters down. (I hasten to add, they are disposable) Although bleach breaks things down, it’s unlikely to get rid of all offending articles Grin

goose1964 · 15/03/2020 19:45

It's caused by not enough fibre in his diet. Get him to clean it up though, or get him on a healthy diet.

MrsSiriusBlack1 · 15/03/2020 19:48

Aldi bleach is a good shit remover

Comefromaway · 15/03/2020 20:49

Surely covering it in bleach doesn't get rid of it? It just bleaches it so that you can't see it.

It loosens it so it usually goes with a repeat flush.

TheWordmeister · 15/03/2020 20:54

Surely covering it in bleach doesn't get rid of it? It just bleaches it so that you can't see it.

Nonsense. It's shit, not concrete.

maddiemookins16mum · 15/03/2020 21:52

You’ve left it somewhat late, surely he’s been doing it for at least 10 years by now. He’ll still be expecting his wife to do it in the future.

pengymum · 15/03/2020 22:24

Easy to clean loos when fresh. Don’t know why everyone doesn’t!

Put a ‘cross’ of loo roll down before you start. 2 sheets each way. Sit & when you’re done, flush. The first lot of loo roll sort of wraps around the poo & and stops skid marks! Usually! If there are any above the waterline, use some loo roll to wipe off or pour water from a jug if it’s a lot. Normally a 2nd flush takes care of any slight residues. You wipe your bum, so wipe the loo! Wash hands afterwards but everyone washes hands anyway!

Periodically (once a week) use a squirt of loo cleaner & clean around bowl and rim with a clean toilet brush. Rinse brush in flush water and place handle under loo seat to drip dry.

No poo clumps or loo paper on brushes! Dry brush in holder, not sitting in smelly puddles. And not excessive use of chemicals.

It takes seconds. We all do this and squeegee our showers after use.
Never had mouldy shower since we started squeegeeing.

Very rarely do we have anything other than pristine showers & loos.
Then it’s due to non family members not cleaning after themselves!

SuperMeerkat · 16/03/2020 12:19

So gross. Whenever any of the kids do this they are marched right back to the loo and not allowed to leave until the toilet is clean. My son is 17 and stepkids 15 and 9 so more than old enough.
