Hi everyone,

I would love to hear much better stories than my example but yesterday I was doing a shop in a supermarket. I put what I thought was everything on the conveyor belt, the checkout operator scanned it all, I packed it all and I paid. As I was saying thank you I looked behind me and I realised a leek had somehow either fallen off the conveyor or out of my trolley at the beginning. I explained to the checkout operator, apologised and asked if I could please pay for it now and the lovely lady said 'oh please don't worry about it, it's on us!' I thanked her very much and went on my way!

As I say this is a pathetic example - yes I know its one bloody leek! But in the current times of doom and gloom, end of the world type of stuff I would love to hear much better experiences of kind little gestures that have made you smile.

Yesterday at 6pm, Italy had a musical flash mob.
People opened their balconies and played instruments or sang together.
A positive, uplifting moment.

Hi @Sgtmajormummy
Wow! That sounds great, so uplifting and just what is needed in these difficult times.

Bloody brilliant and so typically Italian!

I remember when DS was tiny and still in nappies. I had hung the nappies on the hook of the trolley at Tesco’s. I had paid and when putting stuff in the car realised I hadn’t scanned and therefore hadn’t paid for the nappies.

In my head I couldn’t have my little DS tainted by his mother’s stealing (in hindsight I can see I completely over reacted to a genuine mistake), so went back in to explain I hadn’t done it intentionally and wanted to pay.

Customer service lady Very kindly told me not to worry about it, take them and not to think another thing about it. I think she recognised a woman on the edge.

I gave birth last Monday and didn't get home til the weekend. Other than going shopping our first attempt to go out was on Tuesday, when we walked to the distillery cafe about 1/4 mile away for coffee and cakes. It’s not been open long and it’s not somewhere we go to regularly enough to really know the staff, though I did go in when heavily pregnant.

Anyway, I jokingly asked DP if he wanted a whisky; he said no and ordered a coffee. The woman at the counter had heard the whisky suggestion and offered him a free dram on the house, ‘to wet the baby's head'. He declined as he needed to drive somewhere afterwards.

She decided to charge us for our drinks only, giving us free cake, then filled 4 mini jam jars with whisky for us to take away. It was such a lovely gesture!
