What do they like and what is popular at the moment?

My sons are around this age and all the girls seem to love LOL dolls.

mogtheexcellent · 13/03/2020 19:34

Daughter hates lol dolls. Hates barbie too. She prefers books about dinosaurs, stationary and hair clips, bands etc.

I bought the princess in black books for presents recently which i assume were well received as several were dressed as her for world book day. Grin

LOL dolls. Ottoline books by Chris Riddell. Anything with unicorns. Stuff from Smiggle (or a voucher). Build a Bear.

Equimum · 13/03/2020 19:58

Little Live Pets butterfly’s seem very popular as party presents for girls here (DS turning 7, but they have been a popular request when I have asked mum’s)

drspouse · 13/03/2020 20:00

My DD will be 6 shortly and wouldn't know what a LOL doll was.

CheriLittlebottom · 13/03/2020 20:01

Urgh please don't buy a LOL doll, they are so fucking creepy. Look like a baby crossed with a sex doll.

All the girls in my dd's class are in love with stationery - pretty pens (especially with glitter), notebooks, stickers, fancy rubbers, all that jazz.

RB68 · 13/03/2020 20:02

books, colouring, craft stuff, lego, games like ludo and snakes and ladders, things they actually have to play with/intereract with

Patchworksack · 13/03/2020 20:03

She also liked Twisty Petz which are little animals that snap together to make bracelets.

TokyoSushi · 13/03/2020 20:03

My DD is 6, stationery! Bonus points for anything glittery/sparkly/includes something like a mini stapler!

Patchworksack · 13/03/2020 20:04

Or Lottie dolls - they have childlike proportions and lots of different activities

drspouse · 13/03/2020 20:09

We have in the past bought cinema vouchers or a bake it yourself kit (recipe book, dried ingredients measured out).

Stompythedinosaur · 13/03/2020 20:10

I often gave a secret diary (I.e. a little notebook with a lock on the front) as a gift for dd1 that age.

Stompythedinosaur · 13/03/2020 20:11

Also Dobble (I'd probably get the one for kids) is good.

Beachagain · 13/03/2020 20:13

Lego
Crayola (anything)
Kinetic Sand

All the above we get from Argos.

All Tom Gates books.

Latest request from DD6 was a Stikbot.

Oh and a skateboard Confused

CheriLittlebottom · 13/03/2020 20:13

things they actually have to play with/intereract with yes yes yes to this. For dd's fifth birthday I was astounded at the number of presents she got from friends that were, basically, useless lumps of plastic in varying shades of pink. It was very disheartening.

Beachagain · 13/03/2020 20:16

This was also a massive hit at Xmas (Argos again)

Rush hour game

LER83 · 13/03/2020 21:03

Lego friends, anything from smiggle, Rainbow Magic books, writing paper sets & stickers so she could write letters to her friends, diary with lock, baking book/set, cds, bath bombs/fancy bubble bath/shampoo, colouring books, bedding, craft sets - lip balm maker etc, shopkins.

Teacup34 · 13/03/2020 21:17

My dd loves craft stuff, dressing up costumes, Lego, books she reckons she likes LoL dolls but has hardly played with them. Hair clips and accessories are a good idea too.

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 13/03/2020 22:43

Dd has just turned 7.
She got and loved....
Little sewing kits from hobbycraft
Adult style colouring book and highlighters
Fancy pens from kenji
Animal hot water bottle
Dinosaurs pens/pencils/notebook
Dinosaurs socks
Dinosaurs pjs
Lego helicopter
Lego cake shop

Sallycinammonbangsthedruminthe · 14/03/2020 08:39

Play it safe OP ..my daughter had loads of parties when she was 6 and everyone got pyjamas! Give the mum the reciept and they can change for something else if they want to. Most of the mums and kids loved them and they seemed to last a bit longer than toys!
