Help - Divorcing and Benefits

Friend is finally ending her marriage after terrible time. Her husband has moved back to his parents and due to his alcoholism will probably lose his job soon. I think he and his parents realise that this is end of road for the marriage.

Friend and her STBXDH have two primary aged daughters. Friend earns £27k per year

Solicitor is booked for Monday and we have her and kids down for some counselling - waiting list is 6-8weeks but it will be free for first few sessions.

What we can’t figure out is benefits. There is no Citizens Advice near us. What benefits would a single parent on above wage be entitled to and does anyone have idea of amount?

Many thanks

Go to entitledto.co.uk . It’s totally dependant on area / cost of housing / childcare costs etc .

Depends on savings too. I'm just divorcing now and only on £8k a year, but will get no benefits (apart from child benefit) as I have savings.

Those are good sites. If still confused then can call Citizens advice. If she is entitled to low income benefit new would likely be universal credit.
