Old photos

Just clearing out DM house, found loads of old photos (I don't even know some of the people!)

I'll keep a couple for me (that are obviously Mum n Dad!) but it feels sad to just chuck the rest out.

What else to do with them?

I'd keep any with family members on, but I'm afraid I'd bin the rest. You don't want your kids in years to come to be going through them, saying " Ooh, could this be an old pic of mum 's auntie...." when it's probably not a family pic at all. I've done that with old photos, trying to guess, and it's so frustrating!

You could sell them on eBay / give them to a vintage or antique shop. There's a market for old photos for fashion & social details.
Especially Victorian/ Edwardian & wartime pics.

My mum inherited a huge stash of photos and old cine reel when my grandad died. It took her months to go through the photos and only about 1/5 were of recognisable family. The rest were of their friends from a trade body they socialised with. She donated them to our local heritage centre, where the trade body was based, as some had local buildings visible in them.

She hasn't done the cine reel yet but is expecting the same.

Stick them in your loft, one day a long lost cousin may turn up on fb wanting a photo of a distant relative
