Anyone got a ring doorbell pro?

Looking at the ring doorbells and wondering whether to get the doorbell 2 battery one, which I’m assuming is easier to just steal/remove or get the pro one which is hardwired into the existing doorbell.

Do I need an electrician to do that and the chime bit or is it something you can do?

Or any other recommendations?

No advice other than to say I bloody love mine!

I have a ring pro. Apparently the motion detection is better on the pro then the ring 2. A bit of a pain to get wired in as has to be done by an electrician but it’s decent.

The chime bit isn’t actually needed. Will still need get notified on the phone etc.

Hope this is of some help

Thanks that's great. If i have a current doorbell wired into a chime, does that chime still ring if pressed or i need another chime? Just trying to work out if i can get away with the electrician not actually coming in the house currently!

As I still want to hear it chime as well in the house as well as the video link come up if that makes sense?

I thought you could hard wire the 2?

Seasprayandsunshine · 13/03/2020 21:47

You will need a chime box, they just plug into any socket tho.

The electrician will have to install the doorbell as it runs off mains power.

We've got the doorbell and two outside cameras - they are fab, gives me real peace of mind.

@itbemay1@AmIAPenguin you can connect it to the wiring to the existing bell but not something I have done so don’t know how difficult or easy it is

@itbemay1 you can hardwire the 2, it works off battery or mains. However the motion detection isn’t supposed to be as good as on the pro. Also it’s slightly more bulky

Thankyou!

So the electrician just need the power switching off and leant need to come in the house to do the chime bit?

The electrician will need to come into your house to wire in the transformer for the doorbell, but it would be close to the front door (1 or 2 metres) Ours is in the ceiling of the downstairs toilet which is next to the front door.

I've attached a photo of the chime box - you buy these separately. Hope this helps 😊

Thanks @Seasprayandsunshine that’s really helpful. So when they say they can wire it into the existing doorbell, it needs additional wiring? Have you got any of the other security stuff for it?

I’ve got a plug socket near the front door and just have it plugged in via a transformer.

@MrsJoshNavidi too late, I'm already up to my eyeballs in alexa and home automation, by necessity.

Yes the electrician confirmed he’s need to come and wire in the doorbell so would need to be inside 90mins, I thought it was just a wire into existing doorbell so I’m current climate have decided not to risk anyone coming in the house.
