12 Week scan worries and queries!

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone can help answer some queries I have about a few things that showed up on my 12 week scan this week. I do have a bit of background history, my first pregnancy ended in miscarriage at 11 weeks in 2018, and my second pregnancy with twins sadly ended in stillbirth at 23 weeks in September 2019.
I recently found out I was pregnant in January but was nervous straight away given my history. I’m under an amazing team of midwives at our local hospital who specialise in previous pregnancy loss.
However at 11 weeks I had a heavy bleed and went straight to the EPU, where I was scanned and a healthy heartbeat and very wriggly baby was found. The bleeding very quickly slowed to just old brown blood type and I was told to still attend my 12 week scan this week. At this scan it was found I have an extra-chorionic haemorrhage which i was told was normal and can clear up on its own or still present some bleeding. This measured 4.6 x 1.8 x 2.7 cm.
Then when I read my notes in the car on the way home, it was also noted that I have a simple cyst measuring 3.5 x 3.2 x 3.6 cm on my left ovary but this was never explained to me during the scan.
I have an appointment with my consultant on Tuesday where I will ask questions then, but I was just wondering if anyone has had a similar situation and can shed a bit of light on it for me.
TIA x

I had a cyst on one ovary that was picked up on early scans. It was monitored at subsequent scans and luckily reduced and vanished on its own. As it was explained to me, very large ovarian cysts can cause problems especially if they twist but they are limited in what they can do during pregnancy to remove them. Hence the monitoring. Sorry it was a few years ago so don't remember the full details.

I wouldn’t worry about the cyst OP - that will be the corpus luteum - where the egg that became your baby came from. It’s quite common for those to develop into cysts but they resolve by themselves in the first trimester usually. I’m sure it will be gone by your next scan.

I had a cyst which was picked up on my 8 week scan during my last pregnancy. It was gone by my 12 week scan.

Thankyou everyone. I’m hoping that the cyst is nothing to worry about, although they didn’t seem too concerned at the scan, I’m definitely just a worrier!
Has anyone else had any experience of a chorionic haemorrhage too? If so, how was it managed/monitored?

Apparently loads of ya have innocent cysts and we just don’t know. When I had a scan for gallstones they found one on my kidney.

Hi, I had both and all was well, I bled on and off, sometimes heavily from week 6 to around week 15, the worry was exhausting but stopped overnight almost. And yes the cyst was just explained as above to me too. Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy xx

Thankyou everyone for your advice!
Yesterday I had barely anything in terms of loss when I wiped after going to the toilet and there has never been anything in my pads, other than the initial bleed.
However this morning when I went to the toilet and wiped there was a lot of old brown blood on the paper, no clots and I don’t have any stomach pain. I’ve checked a few time’s since and it’s still very brown but thin if that makes sense. Could this be the haemorrhage just bleeding out and healing or should I be worried?
X

@katieem92 as it's brown and thin I would assume it's the haemorrhage. However as it stopped and started again it might be worth calling the EPU just for some reassurance?

Hi everyone,

Thought I would come on and update you all. I had my appointment with the consultant yesterday who reassured me that the haemorrhage and cyst is actually quite small in size and shouldn’t cause any issues.
I told her that the blood o was loosing now was just brown, very old blood by the looks of it which she said was normal. I also told her that it stops and starts but again this didn’t seem to concern her. I was booked in for a reassurance scan at 16 weeks in 2 weeks time and was prescribed aspirin which I was told could either make things better or worse it‘a difficult to tell, which definitely made me nervous!
I suppose I just have to keep going, and hope that my body can hold onto this baby this time x
