Acrylic nail removal

I had acrylic nails done 2 weeks ago. They've grown out a lot and need removing. I don't want to go back to the salon for them to do it. Normally they lift a bit and I just bite them off (I know it's bad) but these are not lifting at all and are rock solid with quite thick acrylic.

How can I get them off at home?

You can buy something to soak them off with from Boots. Don't try to peel them off, it will weaken your nails.

Soak a cotton wool ball in acetone and wrap it with tin foil to the finger, wait like 30 minutes and then you should be able to remove them x

(do the same on every finger, although I'm sure that was obvious)

You need acetone. File off the shiny top layer then soak them in a glass or ceramic bowl(NOT PLASTIC) and file off the gooey stuff as it dissolves. Be careful not to file your own natural nail as you’ll damage it. I would recommend getting a professional to soak them off for you though

After about 2 months I savaged them off my nails. Do NOT do this it took months to get them looking remotely healthy again.

Find a reputable nail salon and pay them to remove them, trust me. Do not go to one of those walk in chinese salons as they often use a drill to take them off which also damages your nails.

I did this once with sally Hansen nail polish remover with acetone (acetone is what melts the acrylic)

It was blue. My fingers turned blue for weeks 😂😂😂

Get some strong acetone, file off the polish and soak. Bowl of boiled water with a glass bowl on top, fill with solution so it heats up. Soak your fingers and it will turn to jelly. File away the remains.

Acetone . I had a real nightmare with mine though. Had to use a pin to get under them and then poured the acetone under them. Took hours

Ask at the pharmacy counter for acetone, tell them it’s to remove your nails. You need to soak them off. Use a rough nail file and file the surface of the acrylics first to help the acetone sink in. Don’t pick them as it will ruin your natural nails

Thank you everyone. I don't want to have to pay somebody to remove them. I got them done at a Chinese salon so my nail was already drilled over a good few times before they put them on. They are starting to hurt when nocked so hoping they do come off.

I'll try that and see if it works. Thank you.

Acetone, those wooden cuticle sticks, nail file for the worst bits. It will take hours.

I've found a little bit of heat helps so if you soak cotton ball, wrap in tin foil and rest a hot water bottle on top that might help.

If you really cant get to a salon that is.

Shoxfordian · 12/03/2020 12:23

Go to a salon, you'll just hurt your nails more trying to remove yourself

I used to soak in acetone, then wriggle a bit of dental floss underneath from the bottom which would then make them ping off.

Of course the sensible solution is to go back and have them taken off properly.

Likethebattle · 12/03/2020 17:50

Use a bowl of hot water then out the acetone in a smaller bowl inside the water to make a ‘Bain Marie’ the heat helps. File the top layer of the falsies off then soak them and use a cuticle stick to scrape them off.
