Do you have a Ring Doorbell? Opinions wanted please!

Are they good? Which one have you got? They vary in price quite a lot, are the pricier ones worth it? Are they easy to install etc?

Thank you.

I don’t have the doorbell but I have the new ‘stick up’ battery cams. They are good. Great quality images at night and in the day, plus you can do the two way talk through them if you want. The rechargeable batteries are supposed to last on average 3-6 months. I also have a spare set of rechargeable batteries (I have 2 cams) so there’s no downtime between charges. They are really easy to put up and connect, too. You can snooze the functionality if you are at home and don’t need the alerts on all time. They also do a wired in version if you don’t want to be bothered with the rechargeable batteries.

Very easy to install, works well, integrates with Alexa - being an Amazon product, it haemorrhages personal data, but hey-ho, I'm not too bothered about that. Have the basic one with a door chime, connected to Alexa and iPhone app so I can talk to people wherever I am in the world. Went for the brown rather than the silver one, don't regret it.

Only caveat is the battery life. 6-12 months my arse, it usually lasts about a month. You can get a solar charger though, which is supposed to eke it out, or hard wire it. Haven't gone for the video recording option, street is too busy and it triggers all the time.

Largely no regrets - one unexpected benefit is that if the children forget their mobile phone (or door key), they can always call us and speak through the doorbell.

We have a RingPro and it's been great. We also have Ring cameras on the back doors because our house isn't overlooked at the rear.

I can't imagine there's masses of difference between most video doorbells now; the images are clear even at night, the connection is always good and ours hasn't ever been faulty or given us trouble. It's positioned across the front of the house so covers the neighbours cars, too (we asked their permission) and I like that. I also like that you can adjust motion zones so if there's an area you don't want covering for a few days you can pick and choose.

Best part for me though is that they change the Chime tunes to match the time of year and last Halloween DS1 discovered that the Addams Family theme tune was on there. Brilliant!

We have the doorbell one, got it before we had a baby. Mostly for security as it works a bit like a cctv.
However since having our little one it has come in so handy! When the door rings I can see who it is firstly (I ignore it when there are door to door salesmen/Jehovah's witnesses/unwanted visitors Wink)
And if I'm breastfeeding it stops me having to worry when the door goes I can talk through it if needs be without opening the door.

I like the peace of mind and security it gives me. Our button broke on it a couple of weeks ago and the customer service were really quick to replace it.

Oh they also have a siren, like a burglar alarm.

@bloodysqueakyeggs, it's worth reading this BBC article for potential issues with Ring, depending on your attitude to privacy. There was a recent Panorama episode about Amazon data mining generally:

We just got one. Mainly because my ex is often aggressive at the doorstep at handovers. It seems pretty good so far - clear picture etc but depending on where you live you may find the movement sensor very annoying.

What advantages does a Ring have over a Blink camera - also an Amazon product, but no paying for storage and they regularly do 20% off if you sign up to their mailing list.

Ring vs Blink

No idea, sorry. I didn’t look at the Blink.

Hoppinggreen · 12/03/2020 10:02

We have one, I really like it.
I can see who is at my door from anywhere in the world and ask delivery people to leave packages etc. It also covers my car so I can see if anyone approaches that
Sometimes we also catch the foxes playing too!

HowDoesTheCow · 12/03/2020 11:00

Blink does all that though - and there's no storage costs, and you can link internal and external ones.

Yes get the ring door pro that way it's hardwired and so the battery can't go flat it's brilliant
