Haircuts with young children

Hey everyone,

I'm a university student in Leeds, after being inspired by my little brother (who has ASD) I have decided to try design a product to aid young children with the hair-cutting process. Initially the product is designed for ASD children but there is potential to target a wider market.

I'm reaching out to all parents (not just parents of ASD children). A range of feedback will help me make the product accessible to all families.

A poster displaying the product is in the link below

It would be really helpful to get some feedback on if you think the product would be comfortable for the child and what kind of distractions would be appropriate.

Thanks

My son had sensory processing issues which make hair cuts impossible. He also has asc traits which are being monitored.
Your design would not work at all for him or his friends with similar traits or asc. What he needs is a hair dresser that works with him to over come the issues, even if that means them crawling around after him or expecting him to be anywhere near still. It looks like a product that is trying make a child have a hair cut in the conventional way. For my ds no amount of distractions on a tray would work. Being restrained would make the experience more traumatic for him and well before 2 he would have been able to fling himself off my lap.

I can't see how it would be secured on the parent's lap of if you have considered that. I think most children's legs would be too long to be sat with their legs sticking out in front of them on a parents lap in the way you have pictured. I think a seat shape would have to allow for them to straddle their lap for comfort and safety.
