Menstrual cups and prolapse

Anyone have thoughts on this:

Menstrual cup misuse 'can cause pelvic organ prolapse'

I’ve been using a mooncup for 3 months quite happily but now wondering if there’s less data about them than I first assumed.

I posted about this a couple of weeks ago before the news story, as I was struggling to remove the cup without dragging and pulling and was worried that the suction could cause prolapse. Seems I had a legitimate concern. I still want to use one though, just need to get the removal right

I don't think mine caused my prolapses (I had them prior to trying it) but it certainly didn't work well with them due to poor fit and I didn't feel comfortable getting it out. I had to stop using tampons on all but heaviest days too because of the potential for dragging on removal.

I am not a fan of them although I do like the idea of them. I haven't had a prolapse because if one but i did have one stuck. It was so well suctioned in that I couldn't get it out. At all. In the end (30 mins of trying...) I had to try to simultaneously "birth" it and pull it out. It hurt and made a LOT of embarrassing noises and I felt like I was pulling my insides out. I really thought I was going to have to go to a dr to get it out.

Convinced by everybody raving about them I tried two different ones out years later. I didn't have that problem again, but they were a faff and I just can't be bothered.

Interesting that there's no regulation for them though. I think there should be. We can say that women should be free to put anything inside them that they choose, but we don't have the time to research everything in order to make that decision. If women are suffering because of them, clear plain info and stats need to be given about that so women can choose. Same as tampons and toxic shock syndrome.

So I started using a menstrual cup around 3/4 years ago. Absolutely loved it, had no problems.

Maybe a couple of years later my boyfriend and I were out one day, walking quite a lot, and something didn't feel right. I was on my period (using a menstrual cup) but I couldn't really explain the feeling. It was almost like faint period pains but different. I just tried to walk it off and get over it, but by the time I got back to the car I was doubled over in pain. It felt like a hot poker dragging something in my vagina, I couldn't sit properly. The pains kept coming in waves, slowly lessening, but by the evening I felt like i'd been beaten up. I had to take the next day off work.

I went to the doctor who referred me to a gynaecologist who I saw a month or so later. NOTE I'd had another painful episode but was not on my period at the time. Had scans on my ovaries, bladder and kidneys and everything came back clear. The gynaecologist said it was likely endometriosis and that I should get the coil. This didn't really add up to me as I didn't have any of the other symptoms like heavy periods, excessive hair growth etc. Left crying, refusing to be put on hormones again, as i'd had such a bad time with them in the past.

I basically gave up with going to the doctor because I didn't feel like I was being listened to. I knew something wasn't right. Googled a lot. Had ruled basically everything out. I decided to stop using my cup and i've not had a really bad attack since, I do still have little flutters of a feeling every now and then though.

Fast forward to now and that article comes out about cups causing prolapse. I'm 100% convinced this is what happened to me. I would not wish the pain I experienced on anyone, because it was honestly the worst pain i've ever been in. There should be much more testing on them for sure. I certainly won't be using one again.
