CV after being a SAHM

I wonder if anyone could help me. I've been a SAHM since my DD was born 12 years ago. Partly due to me not needing to work due to husband having a good job and partly due to DD having a health condition meaning she couldn't really be left on her own/being called into school every five minutes. But as she's now older she can manage this a lot better herself.

Anyway, I'm wanting to get back into work but how can I fill/explain the gap in my CV due to not working? I wasn't really in a 'career' as such before I took time out for my kids as it is. I mainly did shop work. I'm educated to A level standard but I realise that also means eff all these days when employers are looking for degrees.

Any ideas how I can sell myself through my CV? I don't think my chances are good, unfortunately Sad

Have you done any voluntary work that would help with recent experience and references?

I would shy away from listing things done as a parent as employers aren’t interested in the main.

What about going to a temping agency first to build up some current references. Or start off by volunteering - google volunteer jobs there are lots - national trust shops and buildings, charity shops, Cruse, citizen’s advice bureau etc etc. Good luck!

Just put "jan 2008 to present - raising family" plus any voluntary or community work. Avoid cutesy skills lists based around being at home.
