Manager discussing my sick note with colleagues

Is this allowed? We don't get along and he had no reason to tell anyone the details of my note.

No not cool

InOtterNews · 10/03/2020 15:41

Absolutely not

YakkityYakYakYak · 10/03/2020 15:44

Depends what you mean by colleagues. Okay for him to discuss with his own manager or HR, otherwise no absolutely not. Report it.

SartBimpson · 10/03/2020 15:50

Wasn't with senior staff or HR, it was with colleagues that are under me. I'm off with depression caused in part by work related stress. Colleague said to another (who I'm friends with) 'I don't know why Sart went on the sick and didn't just leave', makes me think they're suggesting my illness isn't real. I've been struggling so much and this is like a kick

I don't think what you said there alone suggests that your manager has told them the reason why you're off.

SartBimpson · 10/03/2020 15:55

pol that wasn't all, they knew the reason and duration.

I've had similar and now I've developed more health problems, I'm reluctant to tell my manager because of the office gossip. It's not acceptable under any circumstances. Do you have a HR or union?

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 10/03/2020 16:02

Find out who the data protection officer is for your place of work. Report as a breach of GDPR.

SartBimpson · 10/03/2020 16:02

We have HR. I've been asked to go for a welfare meeting, really not feeling up to it now.

NoWayNoHow · 10/03/2020 16:07

Absolutely not acceptable - report him to HR.

AParallelUniverse · 10/03/2020 16:08

Sounds like a breach of data protection. Report him.

SartBimpson · 10/03/2020 16:10

Thank you

Email and tell them you don’t feel up to it and it’s because of what colleague has said, say how it effecting you and asking how they could possibly know this confidential information, stressing the detrimental fact it has had adding to you WRS. HR need to know.
Shocking! Flowers

TheOrigBrave · 10/03/2020 16:15

Of course it's not allowed. Surely everyone knows that?

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 10/03/2020 16:16

⬆️⬆️Send the email suggested above as well as reporting to the DPO ⬆️⬆️

SartBimpson · 10/03/2020 16:34

I'll write an email when I'm feeling a bit stronger. I'm so upset over this, don't feel like I can go back now.

GDPR breach, confidential information breach, personal health information breach. You can - and should - land your boss in a whole world of trouble with this.

Horsemad · 10/03/2020 20:07

My manager left my sick note on the main network where I (and God knows who else) found it.

I was less than impressed. They're great these managers, who don't know their arse from their elbow... 🙄

ALongHardWinter · 10/03/2020 20:12

Absolutely not! Report him. It's a confidential information breach.

Pollaidh · 10/03/2020 20:14

Yes that's really bad. GDPR issues and quite bad because health is considered sensitive information. If there's evidence then the company could be fined.

SartBimpson · 10/03/2020 20:26

My friend is going to get colleague to confirm on Monday what they were told and let me know before I email. Don't want him to have any way of wriggling out of it. I'm very very angry now at being the subject of office gossip whilst I'm unwell.
