Please don’t laugh at me, I’m freaked out.

So I posted a thread two nights ago where I woke up to see a white figure standing by my bed. It was an white sort of see though figure, looked like a shortish, stubby old man in a suit. I screamed, jumped out of bed, screamed for Dh who was downstairs. Some posters on the thread said hypnopompic hallucinations which made sense. I’m pregnant, stressed and tired.

Woke up this morning to a very tired Dh who hadn’t slept. Ask him what’s wrong and he’s skirting round it, nips off to do Dd breakfast. He comes back and I ask him to tell me what’s up.

Last night he woke twice (2am and 3am) to bright white flashes and a smell of cigar/cigarette smoke so strong in the room that he had to go down stairs and check. But the smell was only in the room. And then he noticed a small burn mark on the carpet (we only moved in to this rented house 5 weeks ago, new carpets, Dh had thoroughly, obsessively checked every inch of the place so we don’t get stiffed on deposits again for things that were here before - he insists carpet was perfect).

None of us smoke, no family smoke. I’ve been hiked up in this room with HG since we moved in.

Dh works away two nights a week, he’s going tomorrow and I’m feeling a bit wobbly.

Please don’t take the piss! I know rationally that ghosts don’t exist. I just feel a bit weird.

(P.s is Birdie friend still around? Would like his/it’s opinion).

NB. I had very vivid dreams when I was pregnant; more so than I've ever had before or since.

Zaphodsotherhead · 10/03/2020 12:06

@FAQs - yep, know all about exploding head syndorme! It's weird, but doesn't bother me as I know what it is. Never suffered from sleep paralysis though, am interestedly awaiting my first 'go'.

@Connie222 You're not in Reading are you? Only there's been a very bad warehouse fire which started 7am ish in Tilehurst (west Reading) and the wind has blown the smell of burning, burning plastic, and ashes too for miles eastwards - we could smell it above Wargrave which must be 10 miles away as and people have been reporting ashes falling as well. The burn in the carpet could just be a coincidence.

No, no where near Reading!

Agree with getting the electrics checked, and by any chance could there be a carbon monoxide leak in the house? That can cause very realistic and prolonged hallucinations/delusions.

SmileyClare · 10/03/2020 12:55

Agree the suggestion that someone is living in your loft is highly unlikely.

You'd hear movement and they'd drill small holes through the ceiling to spy on you*
(*I'm basing this on the film Shallow Grave).

The loft hatch is also right above teenage Ds bed. So they would go entire weekends without being able to get out as he doesn’t move from his pit.

Also, I don’t know how that could happen in a small house where there is always someone here! Been up there too - it was lovely and empty until we filled it with all our crap.

And before anyone asks - no, Ds wasn’t smoking in his room. He doesn’t smoke and wouldn’t as he has lung problems.

@Zaphodsotherhead
I used to get sleep paralysis all the time. My father gets it to. Must be hereditary. Scared the absolute Willy's out of me the first time it happened. But I just go with it now and try and astro travel. Don't think I've ever managed it, but it is very relaxing. Hasn't happened for a while.

Newjez · 10/03/2020 13:37

Will get DD to have a sleepover with me while Dh is away this week. Although I’m not sure how much use a 5 year old will be.*

You don't have to be faster than the ghost, you just have to be faster than your five year old! Just joking of course.

I lived in an old farmhouse in Epsom with some mates for six months. Very strange feeling about the place. Lot's of odd things happening. Could have been mates playing tricks on each other. When we moved out, I was the last to leave. I just had such an odd feeling. I don't scare easily, but I couldn't stay there by myself. Ended up sleeping in my car. Probably just an over imaginative mind. But you couldn't have paid me to stay another night in that house.

MintyMabel · 10/03/2020 14:25

Your DH is playing a trick on you.

Connie222 · 10/03/2020 14:33

@MintyMabel he wouldn’t do that. I was terrified the other night and shaking for ages. He’s not cruel.
