hi im after some advice. i currently receive uc and work 2 parttime jobs. one is contracted for 12hrs p/w and the other 8hrs p/w which has plenty of overtime available. ~Im seriously considering leaving the 12 hr one inorder to gain the overtime but unsure if this will effect my uc. Does uc work on how many hours i work or the amount that you earn??

They work it out on the amount you earn - they take 63p off for every £1 you earn. They may expect you to look for more hours though depending on your situation. ie. if you have no children or health issues they would expect you to look for full time hours.

If you visit www.entitledto.co.uk you can use the benefit calculator to work out exactly what you'll get based on the one income.

Thanks . im a single mum and have no health issues. So it goes on how much you earn each month and not hours you work?

Yes it's based on the amount you earn, not the hours - they recalculate your UC every month based on the amount you've earned during that period. So if you earn £100, they'll reduce your UC by £63, as they take back 63p for every £1 you earn.
