How many interviews have you bottled?

Curious as I seem to be in flight mode from everything at the minute?

Is this normal behaviour?

None. I've seriously considered it a few times- both jobs I really really wanted. And both jobs I got.

caulkheaded · 09/03/2020 19:06

None. I’ve been nervous and I’ve been Very Nervous sometimes though.

DrAdmin · 09/03/2020 19:06

I’m seriously considering it @feelinguseless101

None. Though I've had folk not turn up to interview, bloody annoying.

DrAdmin · 09/03/2020 19:07

Oh I’d let them know in advance

A couple of times. I really regret one now

Yika · 09/03/2020 19:10

A fair few, and I normally go through with anything I'm committed to. I get so anxious about interviews that I convince myself that I'm not really interested in the job, and pull out. Once I've calmed down, I regret it.

DrAdmin · 09/03/2020 19:52

I wonder does it make a difference really, like is it a case that you wouldn’t bottle one that you feel you’re going to get...?

OP posts:
MrsApplepants · 09/03/2020 19:55

None. It wouldn’t occur to me to. If you want the job, you need to go to the interview surely?

AdoptedBumpkin · 09/03/2020 19:55

I have never not attended an interview including voluntary jobs. However, I did have someone not even turn up once.

Runnerduck34 · 09/03/2020 19:56

One I didnt do because I received an email night before saying it was an all day interview and giving a timetable for the day. First I'd heard if it I'd assumed it would be about an hour so hadnt booked day off work.
Could have phoned up sick but I was peed off with them for such short notice.
All the others i have been to but I have been very nervous beforehand. I find it helps to prepare as much as possible beforehand, research job and company, think of answers to common interview questions , get your outfit sorted and journey planned.
Normally once you're in there its ok, remember you are also interviewing them to see if you want the job!

DrAdmin · 09/03/2020 20:06

I feel under prepared

OP posts:
caulkheaded · 09/03/2020 20:54

Can you recognise instead that this is a place you can go to, but instead do something else to feel like you are prepared/safe/whatever? Like giving yourself a kind talking to?

sixsquidswimming · 09/03/2020 20:59

None. I have withdrawn when I've been offered an interview but only because I'd already accepted another job.

Elouera · 09/03/2020 21:04

Sorry, but what does 'bottled' mean? You didnt attend the interview at all, or your 'bottled' up and did a crappy interview?

I used to spend a great deal of time reviewing CV's, slotting in interviews and often re-arranging my week to accommodate interview candidates. I understand that emergencies come up, but its incredibly rude when someone either just doesn't turn up, or only calls on the day, or within an hour of the interview!

SpeedofaSloth · 09/03/2020 21:06

One. I still regret it 18 years later.

DrAdmin · 09/03/2020 21:37

So not many back out once they’ve been offered an interview by the sound of it? Must be me just...

By bottled I mean withdraw from the process.

I would give them notice and said this up thread.

I had someone get up and walk out of an interview once. Her nerves got the better of her. I’ve been as far as the car park before now and ‘bottled’ it because I lost my nerve 🤷‍♀️

I suppose one... I really liked the 'vibe' I got from the hiring managers and the job sounded interesting.

However, my self esteem was extremely low from the job I was in (very cliquey organisation, my face did not fit and management made sure I knew it), I had just been offered another job and this one asked for a presentation at interview which I just did not feel up to doing.

I envisaged making a total fool of myself so sent my apologies.

It's not a major regret as the job I was offered served me well in terms of my CV but I got the feeling the one I swerved would have been a better and more developing company to work for.

What do you feel under prepared on, can you address this?

Stroller15 · 10/03/2020 00:54

I've not gone to a few actually. One I found out some things about the company I couldn't live with after the screening interview. Another one, my contract got extended a day before the interview. These things happen, I think it's fine if you let them know as much in advance as you can. It depends on if you really want the job and it's nerves getting the better of you.

Pandamoore · 10/03/2020 01:01

I couldn't sleep the night before one about a year back and ended up waking 20 min before it was due. Didn't want to be late so cancelled it at the last minute.

Theres probably been one or two others over the years but that one comes to mind.

I usually just go, even if I think I'll be shit.
