Gifts/subscriptions for incapacitated MIL?

ImNotHeartlessHonest · 09/03/2020 08:55

Morning all!

My lovely MIL has injured herself badly and is going to be completely incapacitated at home for most of the next four months between recovery and operations.

We were thinking of getting her an early supersized Mother's Day gift of activities/subscriptions or at-home services that could cheer her up and keep her occupied.

All suggestions gratefully received! She's in her early fifties if that helps, and will be largely immobile downstairs.

Does she like doing any crafts? Knitting, crochet, card making maybe? Netflix if she doesn't have it, or maybe Now tv stick?

Peasfox · 09/03/2020 09:06

My mums friend gave her a cake subscription!

ScatteredMama82 · 09/03/2020 09:07

I bought a fresh flowers subscription for MIL, and also birch box

I love my subscription to Readly. Hundred of magazines on you tablet.

eggofmantumbi · 09/03/2020 09:14

What about audible subscription too? Or there are some book subscription services that look good?

Jigsaws. Suduko/puzzle/crossword books.
Tea/coffee/cake subscription. Flowers would be lovely too.

Does she have a Kindle or similar? If not, get one and fill it up with books!
Netflix have a free 30 day trial so if she's not already got it, she can try it out.

Shaunthesheep34 · 09/03/2020 09:39

Does she like reading? A box of stories does a monthly book subscription and are fab.

thecatsthecats · 09/03/2020 10:51

Thanks, keep them coming!

She always professes to be useless at crafts but I think she might crack spending 4 months in the same room!

Those with physical deliveries, are there any easy access options for the items? Don't want to drag her from her bed to the door too much!

APurpleSquirrel · 09/03/2020 10:56

Willoughby Books do book subscriptions.

APurpleSquirrel · 09/03/2020 10:57

Also something like Ancestry.com if she interested in researching her ancestors/family tree?

thecatsthecats · 09/03/2020 13:17

Ancestry is an interesting idea, though I'd have to check with her, as it would be a dead end otherwise.

I do like the idea of a project (if it were me I'd focus on my novels, haha), but we'd need to pick something she likes for that obviously.

Ooh, I'd totally write all my Christmas cards come to think of it...

I've just got a coffee subscription from wogan coffee, pleased so far!

I think you've had a name change fail.
