Inspired by a conversation with dh today. We were driving past the site of the old tb hospital in our home town. His grand parents met there when gf was a patient and Dgm was a nurse. “So if it wasn’t for tb I wouldn’t be here.”
So is there anyone else who wouldn’t be around if not for something unusual?

If my mother hadn't thought my dad would marry her I wouldn't exist. She went to a clinic to have me aborted. He didn't stay with her never mind marry her. I grew up in care.

Dh wouldn't exist if it hadn't happened to be fil birthday. Mil had two boyfriends and took a gift for fil and decided he was the one.

I won’t be here if there hadn’t been a chimney fire in my grandparents house. My ddad was an ancillary fireman who turned up to help put out the fire and met my mum.
Ds wouldn’t be here if I hadn’t had to take antibiotics for teeth problems

My children owe their existence to a video game and a tattoo on their dads arm of the game. Both me and dp played the game and got talking over his tattoo and 5 years later we are still together.

A man was standing next to me with his guidedog at a crossing. The green man came up, I briefly checked no on was about to jump the lights and was literally about to step into the road when the dog flung itself against both my left leg and its owners right leg literally bridging us IYSWIM and pushed us back... a car went through at what must have been 70 miles an hour. I would have been in front of it. I went home and made a large donation to Guide Dogs UK

@listsandbudgets wow that's incredible. Brought a tear to my eye. Amazing dog.

If my sister wasn't a big newborn I wouldn't be here. My mum didn't want anymore, but she was desperate for a 'proper' tiny newborn. I filled the brief and there were no more babies.

I wouldn't be here if it weren't for my father being desperate for a child of his "own" (my mother already had 2 boys), and the tablets my less-keen mother took in NI to "bring on her period", quite obviously not working.

I wouldn't be here if it weren't for the fabulous midwifery team in the military hospital flying into action when the power went out and manually working the ventouse machine, then resucitating me immediately after birth.

I wouldn't be here if it weren't for a stranger driving along the rural road between my parents house and the military hospital, right at the moment, that my aunt flew out into it to try and flag a car down to get me to the hospital as I'd started to choke on a sweet and my nurse mother couldn't dislodge it. I was 18 months old, and by the time we reached the hospital (5 minutes drive away), I needed to have my breathing kick-started again. The driver? Went about their day, I guess, because although he came into the hospital with my mother... he didn't stick around. I actually owe a complete stranger my life.

My daughter wouldn't be here if it weren't for my being deliberately given the wrong information concerning how far along in my pregnancy I was... and my close knit group of friends banding about me to help support me through the shock of having left a DV relationship, only to find myself unexpectedly pregnant at 19.
