How can I get my car home?

My Dad has very kindly bought me a car. Its an incredible gesture and will massively increase my earning potential. The only problem is the car is in London and I'm in Devon! I only have a provisional licence but know how to drive. I don't know anyone who could come with me to pick it up.

The obvious answer is to leave it in London and go get it after I pass my test, but it seems a shame to leave it there when I could be using it here (with a driver next to me and L plates). Also where would I park it? Dad lives in London but there is no place to park it long term near his house.

Is there a (cheap) service that will bring it to me? On Google there is a company that quoted me £95 including petrol to fetch it but for some reason they can only drive cars with Spanish or French number plates.

Any ideas?

Sorry I can't offer advice, but I just wanted to say that I think you are great, and very determined. You are doing all this to try to improve your situation for you and your DC and for that you should be proud.

I know this sounds horribly patronising, it isn't meant to be, but I hope it all works out for you.

Courier/delivery driver will require special insurance on your car. Make sure you check with your insurance company that you are covered.

If Bellad is driving it for you, most people with fully comp insurance will be insured third party to drive your car.

Omg no don't let someone drive your car on their third party insurance! That's potentially you losing your car and not getting a penny back!

If someone is to be driving it for you then you need to make sure they are covered fully comp!

Please don't let some random stranger from the internet drive your car home!

No offence to Bella, but you don't know her or her husband - you have no idea what her driving is like or what insurance she does or doesn't have. Please go with a reputable company.

Could your dad lend you the £400 it would take to get it brought home by a legitimate company?

We had to get a car from Preston (Lancs) to Glasgow recently and Shiply did it for £150.

Bellad19 · 09/03/2020 15:02

No offence taken! We’ve just found out we’re from the same place exactly so I’m going to invite her over to meet us etc if she does decide she wants us to do that, completely understand scepticism though!

I would have offered, but I am near manchester.
The drive would not bother me at all!
