TV recording for those in the technological dark ages

I've been doing my recording on a TiVo (I subscribe to VirginMedia). But I've just discovered that I can lose historical recordings if and when VirginMedia choose to make changes to their channel settings (I had no idea this could happen - I had assumed that recorded meant it was there for ever, but that's not the case).

So I want to start recording some of the programs the DC love to watch and rewatch on a PVR-type thing so I retain control.

But...I have an old TV that only has Scart and no HDMI input. And PVRs with Scart sockets are like hen's teeth.

The only one I can find still for sale is a BT YouView+ box. It says it works with any provider.
Does anyone have one?
Does it genuinely record on the box or is it like the TiVo and subject to external whims?
Is there anything else that anyone would recommend?

I do realise that I could buy a new TV and get much more flexibility. But the old TV is still going strong and I don't like getting rid of stuff that's still working.

I have one but then we're with BT so can't really advise. Easy to use and record and nothing's disappeared.

The BT box works fine without a BT subscription. I use mine as a generic Freeview box and have loads of old recordings on it. You can hook it up to the internet if you want to use catch-up services but it still works fine if you don't.

Ooh. Thanks. That sounds promising.

You might be able to get an hdmi/scart converter? Info here

I did think about a converter but it seemed a bit of a minefield. That article seems to agree.
