Wanted to buy some vitamins (not stock piling but cos I've run out!)

Boots have a 3 for 2 deal so take my 3 to the counter where I'm told there is a limit of 2 packs per person because of panic buying! Even when I explained and showed her the deal, she wouldn't sell them to me Shock

What made me really laugh was when she said I was the third person who'd "tried this trick today"

So I took my illicit stash to another till and bought them there.

Madness, I tell you, madness Grin

I had loads of no7 vouchers to use up a while ago. So picked up the things I wanted and hadn’t realised it was only 1 per transaction. The cashier helpfully put things through one transaction at the time for me so I could use all the vouchers. Win.

Toddlerteaplease · 08/03/2020 15:09

@phonezombie. That's terrible. Calpol
Is fine for newborns! We give it all the time.

toomanypillows · 08/03/2020 15:11

I went to Matalan and bought a load of clothes for summer holidays. Got served by a teenager; clearly her first day.
She undercharged me by quite an amount - over £20.
I stood by the door looking at my receipt and went back to see the manager to explain. I didn't want her to get into trouble and possibly lose her job.
Anyway, the manager took me to a till and we sorted through all the things I HAD paid for and then added the things I hadn't paid for.
Matalan were doing a deal on getting a free Disney bag with every £25 spent. I had spent around £40 in total, but this second transaction was under £25. I hadn't "qualified" for the free bag, but I asked for it anyway and the manager said no because I hadn't spent the required amount in one transaction.
I pointed out that I HAD shopped in one transaction, had the good grace to return to pay up after their mistake and that it was only two transactions because they had messed up.
She genuinely stood arguing with me about it for several minutes trying to explain that the till wouldn't allow it.
In the end I threatened to return all of the clothes and she grudgingly relented.
I didn't even want to the bag ffs

I actually wrote to head office to complain about her attitude, and I got 20% off my next shop.

She was a proper jobsworth

Roselilly36 · 08/03/2020 15:17

In a garden centre cafe, the other day, my friend & I ordered toasted tea cakes, when we were paying at the till, the assistant walked out with our teacakes, I said are they ours, she said yes and walked straight back into the kitchen, I said can I have them, she said no, I will bring them over when you are sitting down! This is the same garden centre that had a fire alarm sound (not a drill) and the catering staff were still putting out the scones and weren’t going to leave until the task was done.

wowfudge · 08/03/2020 15:17

I've had Waitrose vouchers for £4 off when you spend £20. You can't consolidate the offer so I've had to split the shipping into roughly £20 blocks to use more than one.

Submariner · 08/03/2020 16:45

@toomanypillows I had a run in with a grumpy Matalan cashier too. She gave me a proper telling off for not having my loyalty card with me. (I believe you used to have to have one to shop there, but this was after that time). I was like Hmm thinking, if she keeps having a go I'm just say 'ok, I'm not buying it then.' I genuinely felt like a junior member of staff not a customer. Bizarre!

whatnow40 · 08/03/2020 17:04

My DS is has sensory perception disorder and doesn't tolerate some textures of food and has never taken liquid medicines. From age 2 it was very difficult to manage high temp and fevers or when he needed anti biotics. We had to let him just ride it out.

I convinced our GP when he was 5 to prescribe capsules when he needed another course of anti biotics. At this point, DS had been hospitalised previously with an infection that would have cleared up fine if he'd taken anti biotics.

The chemist refused to dispense the capsules, even though the doctor has specifically written on the prescription that I needed to be capsule. I had to go to another chemist in the end. And DS took them just fine.

Talking of chippys, ours does a chips, sausage and curry meal. Now I'm not a fan of sausages, but it's the same price with it or without it so DH has always ordered 2 meals and asked if both sausages can be put on one meal. Never a problem until new woman started.

She looked at Dh like he's asked her to split the atom. She couldn't do it, she'd have to charge more etc etc. It wasn't getting though at all. He was about to give in when nice manager who we've known for years appeared and told her to do as asked and that it was a perfectly reasonable request.

She didn't last long. Her people skills in general needed more than a few tins of brasso.

cybercontroller · 08/03/2020 17:09

Maybe it was company policy th at the item restriction overrides the 3 for 2 offer? If there's a shortage you'd still be taking am extra one off the shelf, even if it didn't cost you anything. But I'm sorry she didn't want to risk being disciplined or even risk losing her job to please you.

PhoneZombie · 08/03/2020 17:57

@Toddlerteaplease

I think babies have to be 2 or 3 months old to have calpol, or at least they did several years ago when my youngest was a baby.

Toddlerteaplease · 08/03/2020 18:04

We give it to new horns at work. (Peadiatric nurse) it's just different dosing.

Roselilly36 · 08/03/2020 18:14

Just thought of another fine, jobsworth example, I was having a Mirena coil fitted, my GP advised me to buy some feminax and take it an hour before the fitting appointment, picked up the prescription at the pharmacy and said can I buy some feminax, are you buying it for period pain, no my GP advised me to do so as the coil that you have dispensed is being fitted next week, eventually after a lot of questions and referral to the duty pharmacist I was “allowed” to purchase the feminax, it would have been much easier to lie!

Mlou32 · 08/03/2020 18:32

@ffswhatnext I know it's frustrating when you can't get what you have been prescribed however if there was an error in prescribing or an oversight by the doctor and the pharmacist gave you the prescription anyway, then they are just as liable for the mistake as the doctor and could potentially lose their registration if the mistake was major ie the painkillers harmed the baby.
As a nurse, there have been many times where I have refused to give out a medication due to a glaring error by a doctor. As the last in the line and the one administering, it would be me in the firing line should harm have occured. I am expected, as a registered professional, to know what I am giving patients ie contraindications, dosages etc and would be in serious trouble if I did cause harm. Same goes for the pharmacist.

I do totally understand how annoying it is though!

sueelleker · 08/03/2020 19:28

I've had Waitrose vouchers for £4 off when you spend £20.
You're lucky-all the Waitrose vouchers I get are for £4 off a £40 shop. I never spend that much in here.

Whowantstogotothepark · 08/03/2020 19:54

I was in boots using my foreign credit card. I tried to tap to pay but it came on up on the till that a signature was needed. Of course my credit card wasn't signed, on the back, which meant I wasn't allowed to use my card to pay according to the cashier.

So I produced my driving licence with my photo, name and signature on it. I asked if I could sign the receipt using that as proof that I was who I said I was, which matched up with my credit card. No. Not allowed.

So I walked away, used a pen from my bag, signed the back of my card, went to buy the products and was allowed to. Ridiculous!

AlexaAmbidextra · 08/03/2020 20:01

That really annoys me when the pharmacist questions your prescription.
Last time I told them very nicely that until they had access to my medical records, what I am prescribed has nothing to do with them.

Actually, I disagree with this. The pharmacist has professional accountability and cannot just follow blindly an instruction they feel to be unsafe. What they should be doing though rather than just refusing to dispense is contacting the prescriber to discuss. If they wrongly dispense a medication that causes harm it will hold no water in the Coroner’s Court when they say ‘well the doctor told me to do it’.

KitKat1985 · 08/03/2020 20:07

I'm a nurse and I referred a patient for a CHC assessment (which would provide funding for long term care). They agreed to do the assessment which involves assessing the patients needs in a few weeks time. Unfortunately in the meanwhile the patient passed away. I contacted the CHC assessment department to tell them they no longer needed to carry out the assessment as the patient had sadly passed away, and the lady replied to say they would still carry out the assessment anyway as it was their policy to carry out an assessment even if a patient had had a 'change in care needs' since the referral was first sent. Confused Shock

The one that upset me the most was a train ticket - I'd asked for a day return to London for an interview and been given at least three bits of card, paid the usual amount, and run for my train.

On the way back I handed the cards to the ticket collector who pointed out I only had a single. Which turned out to be the case. I didn't have enough money for another ticket, and said I'd asked for a return and it was the same price. I even pulled out some previous tickets to prove it was the same price for singles and returns, but the guy just kept telling me I'd defrauded the train company and would get a criminal record (and clearly enjoying himself).

Eventually a chap came down the carriage, claimed he was a lawyer, the trains had suffered no loss, the ticket office cocked up all the time, and please stop harassing this young lady. Jobsworth harrumphed and endorsed my ticket to let me out at the other end.

I was very, very grateful to the guy who intervened (and have done the same since, but never come across any train crew with such bad attitudes - usually they are delighted to authorise anything they can to help).

Januarydontbecool · 08/03/2020 20:41

@wowfudge, I use the £4 off when you spend £20 at Waitrose vouchers. I just put all the shopping on the conveyor belt and ask the assistant to stop when it gets over £20. They do, I pay, and then carry on with the £20 worth, and again.

I’ve done this on about three occasions: the first time I was trying to put £20-worth through by watching the checkout total and the assistant said she’d do that. The assistants seem quite used to it, so I now just say I’m using the vouchers at the start.

Tips: if you’re getting any 3-for-2 or similar offers, make sure all 3 go though in the same £20 transaction. Also, if it is 3-for-2, the £20 limit works on the original prices rather than the discounted ones, so you get the free item and the £4 off and end up paying £11 - £15 or so for the £20 shop.

@sueelleker I only shop at Waitrose when I get the £4 on £20 vouchers. If I wait long enough they send more.

Chilobster · 08/03/2020 20:47

Took the sleeper train a few years ago which included one onward journey on the tube (first class - the onward journey is marked on the ticket). Great, I was going to Waterloo. Got to the barriers once I got off the tube and they refused my ticket- showed it to man at the gate who said it wasnt valid because I left glasgow at 11pm the night before so would have had to have used it before 4am. Wouldnt listen to reason - the train didnt arrive in London till 7am for a start! He made me buy a new tube ticket.

I wrote to TFL because I was so annoyed and they sent me a tenner. Idiots.

wowfudge · 08/03/2020 20:47

My point was that it's daft - we had four payments, four receipts, etc and the process took longer than it needed to.

Immaback · 08/03/2020 20:50

I don’t know if this is an example of jobsworthness or just lack of common sense.
Went to the theatre, as we were close to the bar we were one of the first customers to get to the counter. We ordered two glasses of red. Some issue with not having the bottle open, one Staff member (only two on duty) goes to other bar to get wine. They then couldn’t open the bottle. Staff member goes out to the other bar again (all the while neither hiding their annoyance- the line was getting quite long) DH offers to try and open the bottle for them (it was clear neither of them had much experience opening bottle of wine )
The bottle is handed to DH, he opens it- they pour it and we have a laugh about it to each other and step aside . 2 minutes later they’re asking us to take our seats , another 30 seconds later the Same two staff are asking us to leave the bar

Ok maybe not jobsworth but these guys surely are clueless right ?

Januarydontbecool · 08/03/2020 21:10

@wowfudge, they probably think it’s set up in the way that you can only get one free newspaper a day however many separate transactions you do, but it isn’t. You can do all the £20 shops on the same day, as we have both discovered.

Bananabixfloof · 08/03/2020 21:17

Okay.
I had to call the local council refuse place because a dead puppy was laid on the path. It was making children cry and had been there two days when I called.
The conversation goes
Hi I'd like you to come and remove a dead puppy on the path.
Them, ok where is it exactly
Me, blah blah, precisely between these two houses, on the path, partially wrapped up in a blanket.
Them, what breed of dog exactly
Me, nonplussed........ er I dunno didnt look too closely
Them. Pick a breed it could be
Me, just how many dead dogs do you think there are on this street?
Them, put phone down on me

To be fair next time I walked past the dog was gone, but I still dont know if the council took it.

springydaff · 08/03/2020 21:27

I was buying some clarkes sandals back in the day, the classic crepe-soled Enid Blyton types, red. Because I have very small feet I was buying them in the children's shoe dept. "Are they for you?" the assistant asked. When I said they were for me she said she'd have to charge me extra tax because I was an adult.
