She never really likes anything I buy her tbh but have to get her something.
Any ideas for under £20

Does she like spring flowers? For under £20 you could get her an arrangement of spring bulbs in a wicker basket; maybe with moss and some miniature daffodils and snowdrops. Or some hyacinth bulbs in a pot? Or a big bunch of one-colour tulips?

What does she like to do?
What’s your budget?

Her birthday is the day after Mother's Day so was going to get her flowers for MD

She doesn't really do anything other than watch tv!

Does she have a garden?
I think sizeables idea is lovely. Maybe you or dh could plant them for her as part of the gift?
That’s what I did for my mum one year for Mother’s Day. I planted some bulbs for her and she had lovely flowers throughout the year.

Otherwise
Bake a cake?
Toiletries
Nice mugs

AuntieMarys · 08/03/2020 09:12

She sounds fun.

Sizeablecontours · 08/03/2020 09:16

Yes I should have guessed that about the flowers... .

A throw for her sofa? Or a cushion?
Embroidery kit?
Bag of magazines and puzzle books?
One of those trays with a pillowy underside you put on your knees while eating in front of telly?
A China mug with posh tea bags inside?
Or posh tea and biscuits?
Some hand made soap or other smellies?
Some sort of stationery? Something like a "do not forget" or tear -out list notebook?
Posh hot water bottle with cover? Or wheat bag you heat up in microwave?
Miniature gins with posh tonic?
Sponsor a goat/child sort of thing?

How does she let you know she doesn't like your presents? When she says something, that could be your opportunity to ask what she would like next year and for her to give you some ideas?

Sizeablecontours · 08/03/2020 09:29

Hand cream, nail files, clear or pale varnish?

sleepyhead · 08/03/2020 09:31

Netflix or Now TV pass.

CherryPavlova · 08/03/2020 09:34

Some plants for the garden
A doing something like afternoon tea or cinema trip
Homemade cake
Colourful scarf
Pretty soaps
Snag tights in her size
Jigsaw

PermanentTemporary · 08/03/2020 09:36

I would get her something completely neutral - a small box of posh chocolates or a bright scarf or one of those boxes of soap? Budget about £6-7? If she's unappreciative of all presents but still notices if she doesn't get one, dont put the effort in.

At Christmas I have to say I gave everybody bamboo socks and they went down surprisingly well across the board. Dh used to say he knew he'd passed 50 when he found a pair of socks to be a really lovely gift.

I'm 65.

Something 'posh' e.g. Molton Brown shower/bath gel - the stiff carrier bag with tissue paper will give her a nice pampered feeling!

MB is £22.

@AuntieMarys and you sound like a bitch!

Digital photo frame, preloaded with family photos. We did this for my MIl a few years ago and she loved it
