Cheapest new driveway

Sorry for the very boring post but our driveway is a mess and we are hoping to get a new one.
We don’t have a massive budget but want it to look half decent.

What is the cheapest method, block paving/concrete or something else?

How much am I looking at for a 2 car driveway usually?

Thanks!

Ours cost £7k for block paving for a quite wide 3 car driveway and separate path.

I think tarmac would have been slightly cheaper but not much. Resin was about 50% more.

Your local authority may not permit impermeable surfaces, so you'd be looking at porous block.

I have just had one laid.

85sq m of drive and another 10 of just path. A block edging, Acco drains next to the house and porous tarmac for the drive. They also added a couple of bags of white marble chips to 'lift' the colour so it didn't look too much like a road.
£3500 - without the path or the block edging it was £2500.

I wanted bound gravel but far too many ££££££££££££££

It is porous too, puddles gradually soak through, so although small puddles form when it's raining they disappear pretty quickly when it stops.

Small company - owner/operator so low overheads.

There are regulations in place about not putting solid surfaces over more than a specific percentage of your land as concreting etc is one of the factors involved in flooding.

You can have solid surfaces providing that it drains to a drain on your own property, which ours does.

What about shingle - its cheap and makes a noise when walking on it, great for deterring burglars.

We’re doing ours soon. We’re going for gravel with a layer of hardcore underneath. We’re doing a lot of the groundwork ourselves so should come in under £2k. Would love block paving but for a driveway of our size it would be around £12k.

We had a large 4 car drive done for about 2k. Tarmack.

I think gravel is cheaper but personally I hate the stuff.

Thanks everyone! Lots to look up.

Has anyone used pattered concrete, now did this compare price wise?
