Would you use an overweight personal trainer?

Just that really. Would love to be a personal trainer and I am very fit but still overweight. I imagine it would put most people off.

"there's increasing evidence that being overweight but with an active/high fitness lifestyle is far healthier in the longterm than inactive 'normal' weight."

There's more evidence that being overweight, whether you're fit or not, is a health risk in itself.

Definitely, yes.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 08/03/2020 22:53

No I wouldn’t either. A PT physical appearance plays a huge part in getting business, people aspire to be like them. It motivates them to work hard.

Yes would feel more approachable!

madcatladyforever · 08/03/2020 23:00

it wouldn't make any difference to me as long as shes properly trained.
It's me thats trying to get slim and fit and I just need someone to help out. Its me that needs the self discipline not her.

whiplashy · 08/03/2020 23:04

No

Grembolina · 08/03/2020 23:07

No, sorry in all honesty I wouldn't.
Having said that my PT is a hunky 21 year old, it inspires me to work harder.

Maverick66 · 08/03/2020 23:44

Yes I would.
I think it would be less intimidating for someone trying to lose weight.
I have a good knowledge of weight loss and can motivate people and tell them what they need to do and best way to do it. However,'Its a case of 'do as I say, not as I do' as I'm overweight myself 🤷‍♀️

stopgap · 09/03/2020 00:25

It wouldn’t bother me at all, and I’m stick thin.

One of the coaches at our local ⚽️ place is a big guy. He’s sort of built like a sumo wrestler, but by god he’s nimble on his toes, and his cardio is top notch.

McCanne · 09/03/2020 00:28

Yes I would. I used to go to a running group and the group leader was overweight and ran rings round us all, she had great stamina. But also some overweight people become PTs when they’re still on their own journey and it’s inspiring to see them involved to that extent.

Socalm · 09/03/2020 00:32

Yes! A personal trainer is not an ornament! It's what they do. One of the best trainers in my sport can barely walk.

Socalm · 09/03/2020 00:33

He just yells from the sidelines.

2020runner · 09/03/2020 06:14

No I wouldn't. I'd want to train with someone I'd aspire to be like and look like

Blubelle7 · 09/03/2020 07:52

Definitely, fitness and size are not the same. The best PT I have ever had was overweight. I have had some useless skinny ones and one too muscular who put me off lifting because I didn't want her body time and all she did was yell. My overweight trainer was kind and took her time to explain diet and exercise, got me into lifting and classes. She made it key that my enjoyment was the key to my success, had empathy and was absolutely amazing. She was always booked and the worst thing about moving towns was losing her. I definitely now dont judge a book by it's cover.

Have also overheard a "slim" PT mocking her post partum size 18 client and it put me right off her. Attitude and knowledge is important and key, I couldn't care less about your shape.
