I think I need to leave my career.... scared. A penny for your thoughts....

Basically, I'm a specialist nurse.

Love the job itself (the patient aspects) but have come to the realisation with a broken heart that there's just TOO MUCH of the job to ever do.

I'm constantly on the back foot despite being known to be a conscientious caring capable nurse

The system can't seem to change ...,,,so I know I must leave before a) I burnout out completely or b) god forbid, I drop a ball.

I just can't do everything expected by the bosses. And this is with my staying late and coming in early.

My colleagues are in the same boat. Many leaving, many retiring as quick as possible. High sickness rates.

The thing is I love the job but it seems unanimous across the board that this service is now run on a show string with a higher expectation to deliver specialist care than ever Sad

so in essence, what could I do next?

In terms of dipping my toe in the water of a possible career Change?

Nursing is all I know. I like shifting mountains for patients.

I don't feel I want to go back to my original branch of nursing.

I've a 3 year nursing degree and postgrad diploma. Both with distinction.

Thanks for any tips/help/advice.

@Iwonder777 I have sent you a PM, just in case you don’t get a notification.

It's a terrible thing, but people across the NHS feel exactly the same as you.

There's too much to do, we care about we do, no one seems to walk the talk about supporting staff and we burn out so quickly.

I'm not patient facing, I can't imagine the pressure you're under.

I'm sorry, but your health must come first.

OP, I spoke to a friend who I vaguely knew worked in recruitment and she put me in touch with recruitment consultants in my city that specialise in public sector. If you don't have a link via friend or friend of friend, google recruitment agencies in your location/ nearest towns and cities and sift through til you find ones that specialise in your sector/ related.

They are happy to talk to you because to them, if they end up helping you into work, that is contacts and commission for them, and I think they see it as a long term investment eg you might come back to them for your subsequent jobs and again that develops their business.

Hi all.

Wee update.

Never did get my stress risk assessment.

Now off sick... and back on the job hunt.

Rereading all these suggestions and going to sift through the job prospects. Sad but necessary times. I'm no good to anyone burnout as so many of you said xx
