I was at a loose end, plenty of weekends off this rota. I joined an agency ages ago. Im a qualified nurse 20 years experience. They’ve asked me to do a job tonight 4 children under 5 For five hours the pay is £40 am i been snobby or is that not much money for central London? It finishes after midnight.

National minimum wage is £8.21 per hour, 5 hours =£41.05. Seems a bit low for looking after four young children

Goldandgold · 07/03/2020 10:34

YANBU.
That must be a joke, not even a student would take them up on that.

Cookit · 07/03/2020 10:37

What app? I think on bubble etc the sitter sets their own rate?
I’ve only ever used once as an emergency and it was £10 an hour to the sitter plus fees to the company.
For that many children I’d assume more surely?

I live in London and pay my teenage babysitter £5/hr. Not bad when you're 15 for sitting in front of the telly.

AuntieMarys · 07/03/2020 12:35

My dd got £10 an hour to babysit when she was 16. That was 7 years ago

FizzyPink · 07/03/2020 12:41

I babysit in the evenings for a couple of neighbours I met on the NextDoor app. I have lots of experience but zero professional qualifications in childcare.
We’re zone 1 London and I charge £9 per hour but most give me £10 and I feel I could probably charge more.

inwood · 07/03/2020 12:48

£12-15 an hour here!

jackparlabane · 07/03/2020 12:49

10 an hour is the rate for kids should be in bed and with luck you'll watch some telly. I'd pay at least 12 for kids needing chivvying to bed, and an extra tenner overall for there being four of them!

MajesticWhine · 07/03/2020 12:50

Yes £10 is about right. An agency does not discriminate between a qualified nurse and a less experienced person. The rate is the same. 17 year old DD gets £10 an hour too (non-agency - London Zone 2)

Popl · 07/03/2020 13:17

Is it because the agency are taking a massive cut??

Celeriacacaca · 07/03/2020 13:56

DD,16, charges £8 per hour. We're in zone 3 - seems to be the going rate for teenagers around here.

EachandEveryone · 07/03/2020 14:42

Its not £10 an hour, more like 8.50. Til gone midnight as well. I suppose they might tip.

I pay our teenage babysitter £9 an hour then round up.

EachandEveryone · 07/03/2020 17:48

Each If you are a qualified nurse I wouldn't even leave the house for that in London.

anonacatchat · 08/03/2020 00:13

What agencies do people use in London?

EachandEveryone · 08/03/2020 00:58

Sitters

TangoWhisky · 08/03/2020 01:01

Pretty average for agencies....

I wouldn't take that job though.. 4 under 5ys. No thanks

Bet its two families, being cheeky!!

EachandEveryone · 08/03/2020 01:15

No its not. Honestly Ive been asked to look after 4 from 1700-2100 before for the same rate. Can you imagine how hard that would be for £38?
