My hair is getting thinner Sad

I’ve always had fine hair although not as wispy as it’s getting now. I have my hair highlighted around every 5/6 months as it’s quite fair anyway and I can get away with it.

I used to box dye (baby blonde) and it always seemed ok until I started going hair dressers and they hair they are surprised my hair was still on my head as it was in a bad way Confused

So I went along with advice, basically cut all my bleached hair off and grew it natural for a year. My hair is like a dark blonde. I started to go to the salon for high lights. But my hair just seems to be getting thinner and thinner now. The last time my hair dresser highlighted my hair he used a darker highlight and it’s more or less my natural colour Hmm

I want to go platinum for a new look but looking at my hair this morning I look like Worzel Gumage!

What do you use to make your hair thicker? Any suggestions massively appreciated and I’ll google the hell out of it Grin

A good hair cut. There are thickening shampoos, conditioners and supplements on the market - I’m sure some work (someone will recommend something I’m sure)... give your scalp a good massage when shampooing too.

I was using the Watermans shampoo, its about £14 a bottle but you really dont use alot, give it a try, take before and after photos so you know if it is helping you, I do think it was making a change for me, run out now and pregnant again so hairs going to do whatever it does in pregnancy:) But I will buy more after to try and slow the hair loss after child birth situation.

A really good shampoo and conditioner is OXG, and also if you massage oil to your hair once a week that should help,

Castor oil, coconut oil and Almond oil mixed together and applied to the hair and leave on for at least 40 mins then wash and condition you may need to shampoo twice to remove oil

But Iv found oiling my hair once a week really helps with hair loss and hair thinning also try taking some multi vitamins if you not already and eating well and drinking well helps too.

My hair has improved vastly with good diet and exercise. Not an easy solution though!
I use L'Oréal thickening shampoo and don't dye. Although getting greys now so might start!

Vitamins. I take loads of them and they work (my hairdresser says I have a crop of new hair growing all over my head which is about 7cm long (which ties in with my starting taking vitamins in July). Go for one with lots of biotin.

My DMs hair is thinning and I got her a large pack of biotin tablets from amazon and she has new little hairs growing all over her head.

Oooh thanks you lot.

My hair is to my chin now but it’s slightly tapered at the back to give it ‘body’ but I think that’s making it look thinner. I’d like a more modern blunt cut.

I’ve biotin in the past and although it did make my hair grow faster - it was still thin Grin

I think I’ll start up with them again and look at the shampoos

Folic acid imo does wonders for hair and nails.

Lordfrontpaw · 07/03/2020 10:09

Wow - we need a whole vitamin that gives good multi vitamin and extra hair stuff!
I can never quite found a combination that covers hair, skin, eyes, varicose veins, memory, peri menopause (hell while we are at it throw on IQ and charm!)

Biotin. It's cheap and works. My skin, hair and nails are good and I'm old Grin. Thin hair in good nick is better than thin hair that's poor quality.
Co-wash at least some of the time, if you can. It's much gentler and seems to leave my hair feeling more bulky (still clean).
Get your iron and B vits checked.
John Frieda thickening blow-dry spray works.
Elvive Fibrology range works, but I personally avoid silicones and SLS.
A good cut,

Oh, and Google the latest findings about peppermint oil and thin hair. Very interesting to those of us with 'slender' hair.. I keep meaning to make up a scalp massage oil.

Thinhairclaire · 07/03/2020 10:34

Folic acid and peppermint oil!

I’m going to look in to what effects silicone shampoos have in hair

Colouring hair seems to give it more oumph. I have mine highlighted and I guess it roughs it up a bit and gives it more body.

igotdemons · 07/03/2020 11:37

I’ve got very fine hair and I find that conditioning first and shampooing last gives it more volume.
