Where should I go on holiday?

I'm desperate for a holiday but I'm not sure where I want to go. Ideally it'll be at the end of May/June after graduation.

UK only, happy to travel (prefer to drive). Preferably somewhere with a premier inn (I get discount through a family member)

I've done Scarborough for the last two years but looking for somewhere new. Ideally 4/5 nights.

I live near Sunderland, if that matters.

Inspire me please!

Edinburgh. My favourite city in the UK and loads to do nearby.

QuestionableMouse · 06/03/2020 18:53

Thanks. I have family in Edinburgh and visit fairly regularly so it doesn't feel like a holiday to me.

I do agree that it's a fab city though!

Hi from a fellow Sunderland dweller - I’d recommend Belfast if you can get a cheap flight , it’s a wonderful city

iklboo · 06/03/2020 18:58

York
Bath
Manchester
Liverpool
Whitby
Norfolk
Lake District
Stratford upon Avon

All lovely places with lots to do and see, nice places to eat etc.

Wales. The adverts on tv are just as it is - possibly should show a bit more rain 😂

Starbuck8419 · 06/03/2020 19:02

Kent is gorgeous

Srictlybakeoff · 06/03/2020 19:02

if you want something near - what about Dumfries and Galloway . Kippford is a lovely village and you could stay here

Lots of beaches, lovely walks and places to visit.
If you want more spectacular scenery the West coast of Scotland is fab. Plockton is lovely and Skye reasonably easy to reach. It’s usually a bit busy with tourists but that might change this year .

What sort of thing do you want to do? City break / beach / walking and NT places?

dustibooks · 06/03/2020 19:11

The way things are going... a yurt in the middle of nowhere.

QuestionableMouse · 06/03/2020 19:21

I like to walk (not hill walking or anything too strenuous though 😂), eat at nice places, see the local sights, maybe do a bit of shopping.

Thanks for the ideas, I'd never thought of some of them.

I'll be travelling alone so prefer somewhere with a safe reputation.

York, there's loads to do in the city centre and you could get the train there too.

CottonSock · 06/03/2020 19:27

Shrewsbury is nice, and chester

HeyLala · 06/03/2020 19:40

Hi
Try the Northumberland coast. Loads of great beaches, history, castles, Craster for kippers, and Holy island, which is only accessible when the tide is out.
Fabulous place

Pieceofpurplesky · 06/03/2020 19:52

Chester. Good shopping and restaurants. Wonderful walk around the city walls.
Loads of beautiful places to visit - Delamere Forest, Beeston Caste ..
Chester Zoo is fabulous - brand new baby elephant to see.
Day trip to Liverpool or Wales.
The Cheshire Oaks if you love shopping

QuestionableMouse · 06/03/2020 20:01

Oh Chester would be good because I've applied to the uni to do a MA there.

My husband is from sunderland 👍
High Barnes

Anyway , why not go to the lakes. We went to Windermere at the beginning of feb and it was magnificent. Only about 2 hours from yourself.
We stayed at Lindeth howe, the Beatrix potter hotel, was magnificent
Loads to do in the area and was so peaceful

Dowser · 06/03/2020 22:16

Whoops, I’ve used magnificent twice
I’d like to change one of them to magical lol
If lindethhowe breaks your budget, my husband recommends the queens hotel at tirril near pooley bridge.
Just on outskirts of Lake District so quite a bit cheaper.

Pieceofpurplesky · 07/03/2020 00:01

@QuestionableMouse the university is great. It's a small city and relatively safe. PM and if you have any questions - I am very local

QuestionableMouse · 07/03/2020 08:08

Thank you! I'm hoping it's similar to York (where I lived for ~5 years and loved). Just waiting for them to get back to me.
